What I love about perforated leather is its ability to instantly add a sort of casual coolness to whatever it adorns in a way that doesn't cheapen or dress it down. Whether your whole bag is perforated or just incorporates panels of the material, perforations add texture in a manner that's never overdone or ostentatious like studs, for example, and somehow gives a handbag a sportier vibe that's fresh for summer. In the case of this Diane von Furstenberg tote, perforations even give the illusion of all-over sparkle, when in reality it's completely sequin-free (thank god)! And this bow-adorned Marc by Marc Jacobs bag is roughened up a bit by a panel of perforated leather to give it a cooler look that's less cutesie than the almost too-sweet silhouette. I've never really considered myself a girlie-girl, but something about this season's ruffles have really been floatin' my boat. Of course, ruffles can tread a fine line between sweet and... well, a little too frou-frou. So if you're not about to go the overly-cutesie route, consider wearing your ruffles not on your sleeve or your neckline, but your handbag! What's great about ruffled bags is that they let you go as frilly as you want without making you look costume-y, or just plain ridiculous. Go for something over-sized in a neutral shade like this romantic Be & D Ruffled Tote, or if you prefer something a little more subtle, this BCBG Ruffled Clutch has tiered ruffles that aren't quite so voluminous.
