Going To Fashion Week? Be Ready With Our Survival Kit!
The New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 shows are almost here! Before we jump head-first into runway reviews, model sightings, the clothes, and everything else that makes fashion week what it is, we thought we'd bring you a little survival kit to help you through what is sure to be an exciting week! Whether you're from NYC or crashing on your cousin's couch for the week, or there for work or just tagging along for a few shows, there are a few key items you'll want to have on hand (and foot) to help you through the insanity. Flip flops or flats. This sounds obvious but unless you plan on shelling out cab fare multiple times (or have a high pain threshold), you'll want to have a pair of flip flops or flats on hand. Whatever you do, don't wear your flip flops in the tents- switch them outside! One more blister is a trivial thing when there are aspiring street style photographers snapping shots right and left.Camera. Again, obvious, but bring your charger or an extra battery. Camera dying mid-show = instant mood killer.Food. Toss a baggie of almonds or dried fruit in your bag, because there isn't much in the way of food in the tents (so surprising, I know). This will keep you from stalking the people handing out samples of LU biscuits, and making return trips to the M&M booth, and the other booth with the mini macarons, and... okay, clearly I have no shame when it comes to freebies.
10 Shoes That Won't Kill Your Feet As You Trek Around Campus
Where I went to school, you could always tell who the freshmen were because they foolishly showed up to the first day of class in heels. They may have looked cute (especially before they packed on the dreaded Freshman 15, ha!) but we upperclassmen knew that by the end of the day they'd be heading to the nearest Walgreens for a family-size pack of band-aids to patch up their abused feet. On a giant campus full of hills and stairs, I learned the hard way that flats were the way to go -- and comfy ones at that. But just because I've had to leave my heels behind for the sake of blister-free soles doesn't mean I dared to give up my sense of shoe-style. You can still stay fashionable in leather peep-toe booties and snazzy sneakers without requiring a first-aid kit by the time you get to class. Check out my favorite selection of back-to-school shoes in the slideshow!
