If you're anything like me, you're eagerly awaiting the day when "athletic chic" doesn't automatically translate into a tank top and Juicy track pants, or worse, Gucci sneakers. Shudder. Well, fellow fitness-inspired fashion seekers, relief has come, and its name is Yitan-- Thomas Chen Yitan, to be exact. Modern shapes, simple yet sumptuous fabrics, and fresh colors lend a crisp, cool edge to his exceptionally tailored tops, jackets, shorts, and skirts. Graphics are sparse but statement-making, and strong cuts paired with airy elements add movement to each carefully crafted look.
Born in China but raised in Michigan, the Parsons-educated designer captured the attention of industry talent-seekers and won an award at the First Annual CFDA Scholarship Competition, an honor subsequently followed by the Donna Karan Gold Thimble award. After working for Habitual Denim, he launched his own line in the fall of 2004, selecting the multifaceted woman as his muse and seeking out ideas and elements that capture true luxury. He says that he loves the challenge that comes with trying to achieve that each season, and we'd be challenged not to love his work so far! Click SEE SLIDESHOW for a look at Yitan's sporty-chic Spring 2008 collection!
