Your brows are your brows right? Wrong. They can be trendsetters, just like shoes, bags and haircuts. As we saw this fall at shows like Proenza Schouler, Vera Wang, and Zac Posen the big, bushy brow was the anchor of the beauty. A strong brow is a part of a total look, so it is fun to plan your style for a night or day around it. Admittedly, it is tough to change your brow shape at the whim of a designer, though with a little makeup and minor (minor!) tweezing it can be a lot of fun to try.

At Vera Wang, the strong brow and clean palette was inspired by the Russian czarina€™s of long past. And Gucci Westman, the makeup for Proenza Schouler said about his artistry for the past show, €œThe boys always love a brow. You€™ll probably feel a little Warholian.€� Yes! Warholian, even if just for a night, sounds fabulous.

Because for me, fashion and beauty can be like playing dress up. I love the idea of being someone, or something, else for a night. I€™ll be at a show this week where the strictly enforced attire is €œswanky,€� where I will invoke the legendary Audrey Hepburn a la Breakfast at Tiffany€™s. I have the gown, the opera gloves, the jewels, and I will do it all from head to toe.

That€™s the thing about designer beauty, you have to be committed to the quality of the look. There is no halfway, piddle-paddle, maybe-maybe not. You have to be in it to win it, and it€™s more fun that way.

So if you try the strong brow, remember what inspired the designers, and let that inspire your total look.
