London Street Fashion: AllSaints

image
London is known for iconic street fashion. Big names like Vivienne Westwood have people always turning back to London to see what's edgy and in. International designers come here and scout for new ideas for their collections. Outside of the collections, innovative shops emerge that create new trends and a whole different way of dressing. One such shop is AllSaints where you can find unique twists on all the latest trends made with quality fabrics and craftsmen-ship. AllSaints now has 50 UK shops, with Paris and Antwerp recently added to its 53 concessions globally. AllSaints focuses on cutting-edge silhouettes like disheveled ruffles and gathers and details like studs, straps and cool graphics that give it its street-vibe attitude. The idea of femininity is played with and then proudly presented with masculine pieces like slouchy pants or structured blazers and even studded leather jackets, but all leave the wearer still looking sexy and dangerously flirtatious. These dresses and shoes are only an example of the great looks that AllSaints has for summer. So how do you wear these gorgeous dresses? Add a leather jacket or the drapey long cardigan from All Saints for a chic street look. Doc Martins and leggings in winter, gladiator sandals in summer. Tie On A Bright Trench Coat For Spring!

The sun's finally starting to poke through, but many of us still need a little somethin' somethin' to shield us from some of spring's brisk temps. We've spent a winter in the trenches through the depths of the cold, but some of us couldn't make a step out into spring without our favorite outerwear accessory. You'll spring for trench coats in these colors to adorn your wardrobe. The best part about these jackets isn't their stylish buttons, their many pockets or their ability to create the perfect feminine silhouette with their narrow waisted tie and flared bottom-- these babies will make your stems look a mile high underneath their reverse-funnel frames. While they come in the bright colors that scream spring, many stores have moved them over to prices we just can't pass up, so button up, ladies-- don't let your spring ensembles shiver and show a little trench-love!

Hot In The Hive: Smittens!

image
When I used to live in a frozen tundra (also known as the East Coast) taking walks with my boyfriend was always something I looked forward to during those freezing winter days. However, no matter how amazing his company was, holding hands with both of us wearing thick gloves or mittens was quite a challenge. With snow storms still going on (clearly winter weather doesn't know it's already March) and if you've ever had that kind of problem, then a pair of Smittens is just right for you. At first sight, Smittens look like regular mittens until you realize that they come with two regular mittens for your hand and his, and then a hybrid mitten to share! So now you can take those romantic walks while staying close together and warm at the same time!

Price: $24.49
Who Found It: facadeindreams was the first to add Smittens to the Hive.

You know when it's so cold outside that you not only need a hoodie, but also a scarf and a heavy jacket? Well, Ruffeo Hearts Lil Snotty is back AGAIN and this time they are showing us how to make what they called a "Space Helmet Hoodie." Now if you are thinking, what exactly is this hoodie, let me explain. It's a hoodie, only the hoodie part has a turtleneck, so it actually looks like you're wearing a space helmet. This is the perfect hoodie for those cold weather times and pretty easy to make if you follow the directions. All you need are two old ugly hoodies to make this magnificent DIY project. And to get the exact pattern from the video, head on over to Threadbanger.com to download the pattern. Hope you enjoy the video and stay warm!

Hats That Won't Mess Up Your Hairstyle!

Mom used to say that most of your body's heat escapes through your head. And although technically, this isn't true, any surface left uncovered in frigid temperatures is not a good idea! And if your next excuse is "it will mess up my hair," quit your whining because I've test-driven a few styles that will up your fashion ante and keep your hair coiffed. The key is to pick something with some structure, that also covers your ears. I'm a big believer that headbands do not fulfill the same warmth prophecy. My favorite style this season is something similar to the Modern Girl Slouchy Cap from etsy's Raimbo Tree. Cozy and comfortable! I also love the more 1920's inspired look of BoringSidney's Barbed Wire Cross Cloche, for a more vintage girl-about-town look. Check out my SLIDESHOW for hat options that won't make your hair-do a hair don't!

Studly Style Staple: A Pea Coat!

I have a very special attachment to my pea coat €“ and an even more special story to go with it. About four years ago, I was living in Austin as a struggling freelance writer (I was also an engraver at that store Things Remembered). I had been looking for the perfect pea coat for over a month to complete my gentleman wardrobe. I was about to give up €“ until I entered one of the local vintage stores right across the street from the University of Texas. I was drawn to a rack of coats in the back and as I sifted through them, I saw it: a perfect, authentic black pea coat. As soon as I saw it, I knew we were made for each other. I put it on and it fit perfectly. Without thinking, I took it to the register and she said, "It'll be $40." I reached into my pocket for cash and I only had $35. Thinking I had failed again in my pea coat hunt, I said, "I don't have enough." The beautiful boho-chic girl behind the register smiled and said, "You can have it for $35 €“ it's no big deal." From that moment on, my pea coat and I have been inseparable €“ at least in winter time. That said, every gentleman should have some sort of pea coat that they connect with. Whether it's a classic one from J. Crew, a sleek and modern variation from Oak, or a dandy creation from Spiewak, choose one that fits your personality, but at the same time, keeps you warm. Check out the slideshow for more examples of this winter staple.

Winter To Spring Wardrobe Transitions Made Easy!

I don't know about you, but I hate shopping for warm weather clothes when it's still freezing out. Shopping for spring and summer clothes just doesn't have the same appeal when I know I can't wear them immediately! If you're in the same boat as I am, keeping reading because I've figured out some easy ways to bring your current winter wardrobe into spring. For starters, take a look at this cashmere sweater dress. Wear a t-shirt and tights under the dress for a winter look and then bare your arms and legs come spring time! A zebra print cardigan is a great layering piece for the chilly weather, yet also makes a great lightweight outerwear piece during the hot months of summer. Out here in Chicago, it can seem like the winter might last forever. Yokoo has me wishing it does! All of her unique handmade scarf creations are acrylic and wool blend chunky knits. The scarves are all oversized - perfect for wrapping up and keeping cozy. One of my favorites is the giant Oatmeal SoopaScarf - it looks like it could keep you AND a friend warm all winter!
