DIY Pearl Collar Necklace

Pearls have always been a symbol of wisdom and class. Wearing them can instantly transform a look from casual to sophisticated, and when you combine that with a peter pan collar you get a major fashion breakthrough. We're updating two classic looks to create one modern piece of neck candy. Not to mention the insane amount of pearls seen on the Chanel runway yesterday. These collars compliment almost any look, wear it with a dress in the evening or a crew-neck sweater for an easy daytime look.Take off your geek chic training wheels and become a little wiser with this do it yourself pearl collar necklace.

What you'll need:
1 piece of 81/2 x 11 creme piece of felt
2 yards of strung pearls.
glue gun or E600 adhesive
1 ft ribbon
scissors
1 piece of paper
pen
hole puncher

Step 1 - Fold your piece of paper in two. Sketch half of your collar from the folded side out. You can also print an image of your favorite peter pan collar and trace over half of it to make this part easier. Then cut out your paper collar and unfold it to reveal your stencil.

Step 2 - Place your paper stencil on the felt and trace around the edges. Then cut out your felt collar.

Step 3 - Place your adhesive around the outer edges of the collar.

Step 4 - Keeping the pearls strung, carefully place them in rows behind one another. You can cut the end of each strand and continue to use it as each row gets smaller.

Step 5 - Add in pearls where missing and let dry.

Step 6 - To turn your collar into a necklace punch holes at each end.

Step 7 - Thread one piece of ribbon through each hole and tie.

DIY - Perfect Polka Dots

Have you been seeing spots these days? This popular print is making fashion waves on the runway and the streets during Fashion Week. We're embracing this cheerful print and showing you how to spot it yourself. Take a break from your floral dresses and Parisian stripes. This Fall you'll have a new pattern in your closet to boast about.

Fabric paint.

(if you don't have a round stamp you can make your own by cutting out a small round piece of cardboard.)

Step 1 - Dab your brush in paint so that's it coats the bottom.

Step 2 - Lay your pants flat on a hard surface.

Step 3 - Holding your brush vertically apply your paint spots in the pattern you desire.

Coquette - The Look of Lace

There's nothing quite like lace and I love this Horkelia Shift ($178 at Anthropologie) that looks fresh in bright orange while giving a nod to vintage style.

Lace can look great for a dressed up afternoon or even casually at the beach! It's feminine and romantic on it's own and can really add an interesting vibe when mixed with other materials.

Got The Blues ... And Loving It!

This season, it's all about wearing bright colors! Pop colors are eye catching and fun and stand out that much more in the sun!

While tangerine orange and electric pinks are great, they may be a little too loud to wear in a professional or dressier setting. Colbalt blue is an 'it' color this season with it's bold, head turning hue and versatile qualities.

Bright blue shorts or flat sandals on the weekend look casual and cute while being just unique enough, while a fitted pencil skirt or cropped blazer are perfect for the office! Match cobalt blue accessories with cream and neutral tones for just a pop, or opt to try the new color clash colorblock trend (try lemon yellow or saturated plum) that'll really help you stand out!

This is one time we love having the blues!

Denim Color Craze!

We're all guilty of owning more jeans than we can count, but this classic garment is just such a comfy piece that you can dress up or down to fit any occasion!

But are you feeling like you've reached a blue jean rut? Spice it up! With the Spring trend color craze, it's only natural that colorful denim is now popping up everywhere!

From shocking primary colors to muted pastels, denim has gotten a color make-over and it's a fun way to add a brightly unique vibe to your style!

Couture In The City Loves Full Skirts for Fall!

Full skirts that reach below the knee have been seen on runways and stars everywhere this winter! We've seen the look on Anne Hathaway, Camilla Belle, and Keira Knightley. It's a look that works with a variety of figure types, emphasizing hourglass shapes and adding curves to boyish figures.

First popularized by the ladies of the 1950s, the cinch-waist full skirt has had many incarnations over the decade, from bias-cut flannel in the 70s to today's more girly styles.

The best way to wear these skirts is with heels and simple tops. If you add too much volume on top, it€™s easy to throw the proportions off.

Trend Spotted! - Leopard Print Shoes

It seems like just yester-year that leopard print anything was reserved for the likes of Peggy Bundy and friends. But these last few seasons have been saying differently! Leopard print everything from purses to overcoats have been gracing the runways and hitting store shelves!

Yet, many of us may still be a little timid in trying out this big cat trend in large doses. If those loud leopard leggings just aren't your thing and that that spotted shawl is too overwhelming, but you still want to partake in this trend, there is a solution! Shoes! (and really ... aren't they the solution to any fashion dilemma??)

Leopard print shoes, be it sneakers or stilettos, adds a funky and daring punch of style that's eye-catching, but not overpowering. Tired of boring jeans? Leopard flats give them an instant maekover! That LBD is treid and true ... but also seen a million times! Add some sexy peep-toes or wedges and re-amp the whole vibe!

A surprisingly versatile shoe look, leopard print kicks are a great way to try this trend for yourself! Click on the slideshow to see our fave picks!

Couture In The City Asks - Black Lace. Love or Hate?

Black lace is one of those fashion trends that's a bit tricky look to pull off because you risk looking like a Twilight fangirl, even if you're all grown up. Jessica Biel, with her black lace dress from Oscar de la Renta, gives us some clues on how to wear black lace successfully.

First, normal hair and make-up are a must. Her hair is dark, but it isn't shoe-polish black, and it's done in a nice, loose style with curled ends. Her makeup is fairly neutral: no black lipstick (or blood red). And her fashion accessories really help her keep this look romantic rather than goth. The sparkly bracelet, ring, and clutch really make the look special-occasion-worthy, and her heels are simply dressy, not 'statement' shoes.

Bag of the Week - Alexander Wang Darcy Slouchy Hobo

Often times, when we choose to splurge on a fabulous handbag, we go for the safest color. The most versatile, the one that allows you to say, 'I can wear with anything.' Usually, that means black. Black is beautiful, timeless and classic, but it's black and probably similar to so many of the other purses you already have in your repertoire. Why not step outside the box this season and get super spendy on something slightly more eye-catching?

The Alexander Wang Darcy Slouchy Hobo in Mustard is the perfect piece. In a creamy chartreuse, this pebbled leather beauty is still as versatile as it's basic black counter-part. It's sure to add a pop of color to all the dark hues you've filled your closet with. Big and roomy with an over-the-shoulder strap, the hobo bag is embellished with brass hardware and etched over-sized studs at the bottom. So go ahead and get a little color crazy! You'll find yourself using this more than you think!
