Get Charlize Theron's Sexy-Sleek Look

At the 13th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala the always striking Charlize Theron was a true vision in black. The bombshell paired a sleek leather skirt with a strapless top from The Row, creating a sexy yet sophisticated silhouette. She injected touches of color into the look with a Bottega Veneta clutch, a pair of diamond-accented pumps and a turquoise ring. By taking a minimal approach to the accessories, Charlize kept the look polished and chic and allowed her natural beauty to really shine. A leather pencil skirt is definitely a must-have this season and is super versatile. Wear it with a sexy top like Charlize or tone it down by teaming it with a billowy blouse or a sharp blazer. Video Style Steal: Carrie Underwood's Boots Walk All Over This "Cowboy Casanova"

Carrie Underwood has come a long way since her "small-town girl with the big voice" image on American Idol. Lucky for that image of hers, she's ditched the demure deer-in-headlights look and swapped it for an assertive attitude to match her sultry voice. I guess a load of confidence is easy to come by when you have a series of hit singles and Chace Crawford as your former arm-candy! Speaking of exes, in her latest video for "Cowboy Casanova," Carrie hits the saloon looking retro-fabulous to warn girls about a bad boy's particularly womanizing ways... and shows him a thing or two! Don't forget -- Halloween is officially in the dust, so don't go full-on saloon girl when you try this look. Instead, stick to inspired pieces like a bustier dress, cute leather booties, and feather accents that only hint at Carrie's costume-y video. Watch the video, and then check out the slideshow to see how you can go western without looking like you stepped out of a time machine.

Velvet Is Back, And It's Here To Stay!

When I hear the word velvet I think of three things- red velvet cake, the '90s and Stevie Nicks (not necessarily in that order!). Lately though it seems that velvet has entered my fashion vocabulary in a way that isn't making me cringe -- it's fashion forward, colorful, and surprisingly cool. This fall, the fuzzy fabric goes way beyond the basic little velvet blazer or velveteen rabbit bow headband. Marc Jacobs origami-folded bright yellow velvet into '80s space-age bustiers and dresses. Ralph Lauren gave us neutral toned draped jodhpur pants and Miuccia Prada incorporated hints of velvet into tweed skirts and jackets. If you must go the blazer route, try a different shape like Surface to Air's 'Bleys' jacket or go for a slouchy version like Gryphon's smoking jacket. Alexander Wang peppered his runway show with black velvet, in a super rock and roll way; try the cool oversized vest for a totally unexpected velvet touch. Still scared of all the heavy fabric and shine? You can still stick to a touch of velvet with a cute pair of ballet flats. For more ideas for wearing velvet, check out the slideshow.

Get Sophisticated In Peplum Skirts And Dresses

What do Fergie, Lily Allen, and Rihanna all have in common (besides being famously popular singers)? They've been seen wearing peplum dresses and skirts! If you don't know what a peplum is, it's an addition of a short skirt-like panel over the waist on a dress or skirt. Reminiscent of Dior's "New Look" and also of '80s style, peplum dresses and skirts are feminine looks that accentuate hourglass figures. These days, the peplum combines the best of the retro sensibilities of the '40s along with the youthful exuberance of the '80s. Urban Outfitters gives us a taste of the 80s look with their Tribal Print Peplum Skirt made of one of a kind vintage fabrics. For a more classic look, turn to the Alice + Olivia Multi Gather Peplum Dress in a beautiful red satin that will be sure to turn heads at holiday parties. Rock a Leather Mini Like Isla Fisher

At the "Rock A Little, Feed A Little" benefit concert in L.A., the adorable Isla Fisher got in touch with her sexy side, rocking this season's leather trend in a fun and funky way. Isla paired her leather mini with a cool tie-dye tee-shirt and accessorized the look with funky peep-toe booties, a pendant necklace, and an edgy cuff. I love how Isla tempered the inherent sexiness of her leather mini with a more casual top to keep the look from being too vampy. Balance is a key concept to keep in mind when rocking anything leather. Isla also gets points for showing accessory-restraint. When you're outfit is this cool, you really don't need to pile on many extras.

Ginnifer Goodwin Wears A Dress Made Of Hospital Scrubs

If you ever get a chance to walk around the streets of San Francisco, aside from endless views of the fog and rolling hills you'll notice numerous buildings that make up the Academy of Art University. Since the Stylehive office is neighbors with an Academy of Art building, I've seen some super snappy dressers milling about the neighborhood. Based on their long history at New York Fashion Week, I know that their students will make it in the art and fashion worlds. And it already looks like a few students got a head start! Priscilla Guimarais, Kumiko Haruyama, Nui Tanapornwattana, Audrey Wang and Tramaine Tillman created a collection of sustainable dresses for a class project. "Big Love" and "He's Just Not That Into You" actress Ginnifer Goodwin wore one such piece from the collection at 20th Anniversary Environmental Media Association Awards in Los Angeles. Made of hospital scrubs, the fabric was treated, dyed and pleated in a fabulous strapless dress. The future is bright and totally green for the lucky students and I can't wait to see more! Go Classic Glam Like Gwen Stefani

For the Fashion Group International's Night of Stars in New York City, rocker Gwen Stefani was her usual fashionable and fabulous self but took went for a more subdued, sophisticated style. Gwen wore a halter LBD and added some shape to the look by cinching the waist with a black belt. She finished the look with black patent pumps, a black LAMB clutch, and a dazzling Lorraine Schwartz bracelet. This look was polished, chic, and sexy but in a subtle way. And unlike most of Gwen's ensembles, it's totally wearable and can work beautifully on anyone, no matter what your age or size.

Striped Tees And Accessories Make Looking Chic A Snap!

If you took a peek inside my closet, you'd notice two main things: a stack of little/medium/big brown bags that I should probably hide, and an abundance of stripes- striped tees, striped cardigans, striped sweaters, and maybe even a striped scarf or two. Needless to say I'm convinced you can never really have too many striped pieces, and as far as versatile classics go, stripes are easily my favorite. Whether you go for an original nautical staple from Saint James or a contemporary update from Splendid, a well-fitting striped top is the easiest route to chic simplicity and really couldn't be more effortless. If patterned tops aren't really your thing, a striped handbag is equally stylish -- an iconic hobo from Bendel's is playful and luxurious to boot. Feeling adventurous? Pair your stripes with another print, like florals (a la this look snapped by Garance Dore). See more striped tees and accessories in my slideshow!
