Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: Poko Pano

Summer is the perfect season to show off sweet and sexy styles and what better way to do it than in a Poko Pano swimsuit! At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM in Miami, Poko Pano showcased their slightly whimsical, borderline quirky and definitely provocative line of swim and beachwear. From light, bright colors perfect for a sunny day to patterns like fun florals and pretty polka-dots, Poko Pano promised a fun-in-the-sun feel to their daring bikinis and monokinis. Strapless tops and plunging halters oozed feminine sensuality while interesting details and deliberate mixing and matching made each piece unique and eye-catching! Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: Cia Maritima

Well, if someone's gotta bring the Latin flavor to the Mercedes Benz SWIM runway, it might as well be Brazilian beachwear designer Cia.Maritima! The show started off relatively slow, giving us a glimpse of some undoubtedly unique watercolor animal prints that put a soft spin on a traditionally wild design. Things slowly began to simmer with the introduction of boldly printed string bikinis and then reached an eventual boiling point with the parade of dare-to-bare cutout bikinis and structured monokinis that left everyone feeling hot, hot, hot! It wasn't all about the skin-baring ensembles though- the designer wowed with an impressive array of sheer and Grecian-inspired caftans and cover ups, and the details weren't to be missed either- the bold cuffs and strappy arm embellishments were just as alluring. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: Red Carter

A swimsuit is a swimsuit is a swimsuit, right? Not if it's a Red Carter design! They challenge your idea of a conventional one-piece or bikini and have you lusting after the interesting and daring details of their suits. Red Carter isn't tentative or apologetic about their extreme and avant-garde outlook. There are, of course, colorful and lively patterns that stimulate the eye, but it is the space-age metallic leggings or edgy hardware that garner the most attention. It's the optical illusion patterns and the oversized, brightly colored, Lolita-like details that make you sit up a little straighter and stare a little longer. The strapless tops and wild animal prints earned more than a few double-takes... and possibly neck injuries! Beach coverings were elegant and luxurious. Men in speedos and barely-there briefs have never been my thing, but if all men looked like the male models did in Red Carter's bold and edgy "trunks," then I may just have to rethink my stance! Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: Luli Fama

My first thoughts upon seeing this year's Luli Fama swimwear collection? Pageant bikini competition protestors obviously have never seen one of her runways! Decked out in fluffy sausage curls (sounds like something at IHOP, I know), plenty of red lipstick, and exuding the feminine confidence of Rosie the Riveter, the show's models were a perfect balance of girlie-sexy and in-your-face tough, putting a fresh new spin on the pin-up girl that frankly could probably kick your butt. The collection itself boasted a fun and flirty variety of retro prints like black-and-white polka dots with modern twists like neon ruffled trim.. and of course the looks wouldn't be complete without red pearl necklaces, giving the collection a sort of overall "June Cleaver lets her hair down" vibe. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: TIBI

If there's one thing a Tibi runway never fails to lack, it's plenty of color... and this year's Miami Swim show was no exception! While there was little variety in the cut of the suits, which mainly alternated between minimal-coverage bikinis and one-pieces bearing deep necklines (with a couple one-shoulder numbers thrown into the mix), the abundance of bright, tropical prints seemed practically bottomless! If the tribal-gone-funky theme was not apparent enough with the models' cuffed forearms, gold metal sandals, and idol symbol jewelry dangling from their ears and necklines, the suits' many patterns -- from neon geometric tribal designs to tropical orchid-inspired florals -- cleared up all possible doubt. Even among the sea of shocking pink and turquoise suits, a particularly gorgeous magenta tunic dress stood out, trailing a flowing train of silk in its path and closing the show in the fiercest way possible. New York Fashion Week Fills The Shows' Front Rows With Plenty Of Famous Faces!

Among the fashion elite who are actually granted access to the highly-exclusive Bryant Park tents are some of Hollywood's most noted celebrities -- after all, what kind of star would you be if you weren't dressed by the best of the best in designer royalty? Some famous fashionistas like Kellie Pickler and Jessica Stroup couldn't stay away from the glamour of the runway and were spotted warming up the front row seats of several designers' shows, including Badgley Mischka, Pamella Roland, and Lela Rose; meanwhile, other more low-key VIPs saved their appearances for just their favorite style mavens, like Mickey Rourke for Domenico Vacca. While New York Fashion Week is ultimately about the clothing, many stylish starlets' presences in the front row are inevitably photographed even more frequently than the designer threads themselves (oh, the price of fame), but most celeb attendees made sure they shared the spotlight and showed their support by arriving in their favorite pieces from the headlining label, like Brittany Snow in her gorgeous beaded Diane von Furstenberg dress. I know being famous must be exhausting, but I really can't think of anything I wouldn't give to switch places with one of those front-row ticket holders just for a day (preferably Herve Leger day, please), even if I had to be Paris Hilton. New York Fashion Week Runway: Tadashi Shoji Gives Classic Cocktail Attire A Modern Twist

The Tadashi Shoji Fall 2009 collection brought an array of beyond stunning cocktail frocks from the sleek and subdued to the jaw-dropping and impossible to ignore. For those who wanna go bold, there were styles that were beautifully cut and shaped in eye-catching shades- organza styles with sculpted sleeves, cascade-front dresses in floral prints, satin frocks that gently draped around the neckline, mini dresses that were precisely folded and tiered, halter styles, tulip dresses, and so much more. For the party girl who likes to keep it classic, there were plenty of gorgeous LBD's to choose from- silk taffeta with a cascading front, a cascading ribbon dress, a striking beaded style, a strapless sculpted number and more. For a more formal occasion, there were several gorgeous gowns to chose from including a printed silk georgette pleated halter, a black draped gown, and silk organza strapless gown. This collection was pretty much all about the dresses, but several separates were also thrown into the mix- a black tulip skirt, a plated brocade style, skinny pants, some ruffled blouses, and a gorgeous black brocade jacket. Overall, this collection definitely brought a modern, romantic twist to classic cocktail attire with gorgeous pieces that will never be outdated.

New York Fashion Week Runway: Project Runway Designers Let The Clothes Speak For Themselves

Project Runway's traditional Bryant Park finale -- the chance of a lifetime for its contestants -- has always been an event full of nail-biting excitement and audience chit-chat over their favorites among the top 3 and who they predict will take the season's title. For the show's 6th season, however, things had to be done a little differently. While legal battles over the rights to the show, which raked in about 4 million viewers each episode last year, rage on and remain undecided, production for the 6th season was forced to move on with the traditional Fashion Week finale even though its preliminary episodes may not air for several more months, if the disputes are ever finally settled. As a result, in order to prevent spoiling the season due to leaks, the final 3 contestants were not allowed to introduce their designs this time around and instead were forced to remain hidden and anonymous for the runway show finale -- the occasion that is normally supposed to be their proudest moment to date. While this undoubtedly put a damper on the usually high-profile and openly celebratory event, the good news is that the clothes truly did get all the glory (that is, when people weren't too busy buzzing over the whole legal issue) -- and isn't that what Fashion Week should be about, anyway? While I thought the show seemed to lack its usual brightness (though it's hard to top Season 3's Uli Herzner when it comes to color variety) and black leather certainly seemed to be in surplus, collectively I found the three collections to be greatly impressive -- both in their elaborate construction and chic wearability (save for a couple extreme biker-esque numbers, I would gladly have taken down any one of the models and walked off wearing any of the ensembles shown)! Despite common fabrics, each designer seemed to hold their own and show off distinct visions, even in their anonymity. While I was blown away by the 2nd designer's array of flirty dresses (I can't even imagine how much work he/she must have put in to pull off all the ruffled and paneled detailing!), I must say that I think I'm already pulling for the 3rd designer's "futuristic-equestrian" line because of its cohesive completion -- almost every ensemble contained 3 or 4 pieces, some even including a handmade bag! Plus, that closing black ballgown with sequin detailing may just be the prettiest thing I've ever seen float down the finale runway!

New York Fashion Week Runway: Christian Siriano's Collection Channels The Queen Of The Nile

In his first official post-Project Runway show within the Bryant Park tents, 4th season winner Christian Siriano proved that his design talent is even bigger than his personality. With an array of pieces inspired by the pyramid shapes and desert colors of Egypt and North Africa, his Fall 2009 Collection wowed the fully-packed audience, including a selection of head industry executives from Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and Saks who all drooled at the possibility of carrying the fabulous fashioneer on their racks. The runway opened with several characteristically-Christian ensembles, featuring long cape-like jackets, puffed sleeves, and lots of signature ruffles that we have come to associate with the designer since his show-stopping Bravo TV finale, but this time around his distinctive touches appeared much more refined and carefully constructed. What really had crowd members clapping, however, was his parade of beautifully-flowing dresses of satin and organza, draped in glossy colors that mimicked the desert sand and the Nile water, along with his closing Pharaoh-inspired body-clinging gold gown, complete with a headpiece that only model Sessilee Lopez and maybe Cleopatra herself could pull off. Overall his collection was both inventively creative and wearably chic (no "hot messes" in sight!), and convinced most runway attendees that Christian may just be the Project Runway protege to make it big-time... and the fiercest, of course.

New York Fashion Week Runway: Zac Posen Gives Fall Favorites A Funky Retro Feel

Despite his runway show's budget being cut in half, designer Zac Posen undoubtedly delivered yet another unstoppably chic collection that waltzed down the runway still looking like a million bucks. With an imaginative Fall 2009 Collection featuring a satisfying balance of elaborately-constructed and fully-wearable pieces, from a pointed-shoulder floor-length floral gown to a perfectly tailored orange tweed coat with ruffled sleeves, Zac Posen infused both a Victorian romance and a sense of 40's style with modern and urban details, contrasting cropped jackets with flowy skirts, wide squared shoulders with tiny cinched waists, and plaid tweed with floral fabrics. While much of the color palette was festively autumnal, the designer, in true fashion, couldn't resist the elements of drama and surprise by throwing in pops of unexpected color with ruffled lilac skirts and a jaw-dropping red gown with a plunging neckline. As his extravagantly posh pieces strutted down the runway, accented by the musical stylings of sibling piano group The 5 Browns, Zac Posen proved that high-fashion doesn't need to be simplified to please an audience in the face of economic hardship, and no matter the fashion budget crisis, the show must go on!
