Halloween Costume Inspiration: Karl Lagerfeld

This Halloween, dress up as the fashion king himself: Karl Lagerfeld. All you need are a few key ingredients to get his iconic look.
1. A sleek pair of aviator sunglasses to give you a mysterious look.
2. Fingerless gloves keep this creator's hands safe.
3. Beatle boots to to walk the streets of Paris in.
4. You can't be Karl without a fitted black suit.
5. Give off a confident vibe with a black tie.
6. The more knuckle candy you have the better!

Stylelist Breaks It Down!

Two of my sisters live in L.A. One is about to be 40. The other is just about turning 30. Neither are married with kids and both are insisting on going out for Halloween. Guess who's going as the sexy kitten and who is going as the "night sky" (which I correctly predicted would involve a black Virgin Atlantic sleep suit with cotton balls attached)?

Oh, Halloween, that time of year when parties are packed with women in sexy nurse outfits offering to take your temperature and the men who ply them with drinks, hoping there's a chance in hell that this will actually happen.

I'm not sure when a holiday rooted in the tradition of summoning spirits turned into a reason to get your boobs out. (Perhaps we could thank that early '80s seductress Elvira for kicking off the trend.)

Style Staple Inspired Halloween - Jackie O/ First Lady

When it comes to style, no one's is worth duplicating more than style icon, Jackie O. A transcendent, effortless beauty, this First Lady of the Oval Office quickly became the first lady of style and transformed the American fashion landscape.

Season after season, her influence resonates in top designer ready-to-wear collections, which is why, there are probably some classic pieces already living in your messy closet that can be pulled together last minute for a classic Halloween costume that doubles as an homage to great style!

A sheath dress, or an immaculate pantsuit, large shades and a perfectly coiffed bob are all you need. Click our slideshow to see the best pieces to become (we wish!) Jackie O!

Style Staple Inspired Halloween - National Velvet/ Equestrian

Say 'Giddy-up!' to one of the chicest Halloween costumes for the season; a sophisticated riding ensemble. Channel your inner Elizabeth Taylor from when she starred as a young horseback rider in 'National Velvet' and duplicate this of-the-moment trend that easily translates for costume parties and dinner parties alike!

Try timeless riding boots, with tapered, slim pants and jodhpurs, paired with elegant trimmed blazers and crisp button ups. To make your costume really legit, pin on a dollar-store blue ribbon and smile like you just won the Kentucky Derby!

Beauty Pick Me Up - From Sexy To Spooky!

Obviously the costume itself has a lot to do with how well you can pull off a look or character come this weekend when you'll be making an appearance at a few spooky soirees. But what really gives a costume the extra 'oomph' and makes it truly memorable is the make-up that goes with it.

Halloween make-up is all about going over-the-top and making your look eye-catching and unforgettable! Use dark powders to help contour your face and Halloween is an occasion where the more lustrous and glitzy the fake lashes, the better. Liquid or gel liners help eye make-up stay put all night, and a creamy red lipstick is a true Halloween classic.

Plus, the great thing about make-up and cosmetics, is that you can tone it down and reuse them again for a day-to-day look or a girls night out and many might already be in your make-up bag! Style Staple Inspired Halloween - Private Benjamin/ Military Girl

At Stylehive, we love Halloween, but hate spending money on stuff we're never going to use again. So we've decided to dress up in things we either have or can buy, knowing we will wear these pieces more than just for one night of candy-filled debauchery.

One of the best costumes to stay in style with long after the pumpkins have left the patch, is to emulate that hot 70's Icon, Private Benjamin, played by Goldie Hawn! Go a literal route, or try a sexy interpretation! Throw on your fave pair of military-inspired boots and you're ready to go!

Military is easy, wearable and one of the seasons hottest trends. Best of all, these pieces are timeless and can be incorporated for season's to come! Check out our slideshow for great Military costume inspiration!

The SHG - Not-So-Halloween Costumes

When we were younger, Halloween night was rife with anticipation to don the elaborate costume that had been picked out weeks ahead of time, gather up friends and family and head out to see what type of candy treasures you could accumulate in a few short hours. Nowadays, while Halloween is just as exciting, our days of trick-or-treating have long since passed and are being replaced with themed parties and spooky get-togethers.

While some of us still love to get into elaborate costumes, even more of us may not have the time or energy. But who wants to be the 'debbie downer' and show up in a boring outfit while everyone else is dressed in the spirit (or as a spirit!)? Fangs, a wig, intricate make-up and other fun, but time-consuming costume pieces may not be feasible, but that doesn't mean you can't still dress to impress and show your love for this ghoulish holiday!

Fishnet stockings, lacy corsets, leather thigh-high boots and other sexy, Halloween-themed pieces are a great way to show up at any Halloween shindig looking festive and ready to party, but can still be used for stylish ensembles for after the holiday! Click on the slideshow to see some favorite picks!
