Katy Perry Interviews Karl Lagerfeld At Paris Fashion Week

Quirky songstress Katy Perry chats with Karl Lagerfeld after his show at Paris Fashion Week in an exclusive interview for Elle.com. It's certainly a rare chance to peek into the personality of one of the world's most esteemed designers. Is he intimidating? Yes, but there is a certain warmth about his demeanor, even as he corrects Katy when she expresses her adoration for the fabric, not metal embellishment on a particular dress. The two discuss music and fashion, and we learn fun facts like what he listened to as he got dressed this morning and what song he feels describes himself best (by none other than Lily Allen, of course). His response to the requisite "if you could trade places with any designer" question is a careful mix of smug satisfaction and pure respect. Oh, and he makes jokes too! Katy Perry Rocks Rupert Sanderson For Karl Lagerfeld Spring/Summer 2010

UK shoe designer Rupert Sanderson recently announced his second collaboration with the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, updating his popular Asteroid and Finesse heel styles for spring/summer 2010. Lagerfeld wanted a futuristic-looking shoe to coordinate with his runway show, and Sanderson obliged by adding a geometric heel, then took it to another level by altering ankle straps to loop under the sole and bolting them in place for a dominatrix-inspired detail. In colors and fabrics like white hot suede and metallic silver leather, they were a dangerously perfect complement to Lagerfeld's futuristic 'rock goddess' collection. Katy Perry attended Lagerfeld's show in a pair from Sanderson's debut collection for Karl- what do you think of her front row look? Would you wear these shoes? (See more of them here.)

Paris Fashion Week: Chanel RTW Spring/Summer 2010

Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into a rustic barn setting for the Spring 2010 ready-to-wear show at Paris Fashion Week, and managed to switch out at least part of his signature uniform for- gasp- jeans- perhaps hinting at the lighthearted display to come. Models emerged from the barn dressed in springy versions of iconic Chanel tweed separates and frothy chiffon frocks paired with high heeled clogs and platform heels. Colors were subdued- black, white, and versions of taupe and cream made up the palette- and thus the focus remained on texture and form. Lagerfeld left the idea of wholesome, raised on the farm innocence far behind - the girls sported tattoos giving the illusion of thigh-high stockings, skirts were slit well through the thigh, and beehive buns were a tiny bit tousled as if to suggest a recent romp in the hay (pun not intended). Choosing such a strong theme is difficult as you run the risk of falling into a cliche, but Lagerfeld's execution kept the focus mostly on the clothes, and everything else was an accessory whose role was to accentuate and not distract- this is the essence of ready-to-wear, after all. The overall mood was whimsical and relaxed, striking a fine balance between luxury and accessibility and reminding us why we appreciate luxury fashion in the first place. Get Erin O'Connor's Neon Look At London Fashion Week

The fall runways were splattered with bright hues and neon shades. Erin O'Connor showed us how to do it best at the Vivienne Westwood Red Label fashion show during London Fashion Week, by adding just a splash to an all black or neutral outfit. The model strutted her stuff front row at the show in a sexy fitted sequin blazer and with some slouchy black trousers. However, what took her outfit from chic to extraordinary was the large neon pink purse. Neon can be a hard trend to tackle (like the Michael Kors highlighter yellow trapper hat) but when done in small doses it can really pack a punch with out making you look like your dressed for an '80s party. Check out the slideshow for how to get Erin's look as well as some other neon accessories. Photo credit: PR Photos

Janet Jackson And Rihanna Sit Front Row At Jean Paul Gaultier's Paris Fashion Week Show

Jean Paul Gaultier's spring/summer 2010 show at Paris Fashion Week was certainly star-studded, with personalities from Rihanna and Janet Jackson to Catherine Deneuve in attendance. All wore pieces from the designer's ready to wear line, a favorite of which was Katy Perry's taffeta halter strap dress with a sheer paneled hemline. Both Jackson and Deneuve donned Gaultier's silk and taffeta trench coats, in rich khaki and citrus green, and Rihanna effortlessly pulled off the designer's bondage coat, complete with straps across the front (and not much else). Other front row fans included famed photographer Patrick Demarchelier, burlesque star Dita von Teese, and Igor Vadim (Deneuve's grandson). The Secret Life Of A Fashion & Celebrity Photographer

Imagine that your office is a fashion show runway. Your work assignments typically go by one name (RPattz, Gisele, Brangelina), and if disagreements with your colleagues turn physical, well... hardly anyone bats an eye. Sound surreal? If you're a successful celebrity and fashion photographer like Getty Images' Frazer Harrison, it's all in a day's work. The world of celebrity and fashion photography is a rough-and-tumble one -- a Wild West of cameras, competition, and confrontation that is not at all for the weak of will. "Everyday is a challenge," shares Harrison. "You battle everything from Los Angeles traffic to overzealous security to your equipment. You're worried about lighting, your position on the line or the runway. So many things can go wrong and it's up to me alone to make sure that I limit the fail rate." With such a pressure-filled job that hundreds of other photogs are doing anyway, why is it worth the stress? "Any working or amateur photographer will tell you: it's when you see a particular picture published. Front pages are always a satisfying feeling. And really, no two days are the same, which is why after all this time it is still fresh and fun to do." With over 25 years in the business covering fashion week shows, red carpet events, and celebrity news, Harrison would certainly know, and has stories to burn. His most memorable moments include everything from covering Michael Jackson's infamous trial to an impromptu photo session with Paul McCartney to getting unprompted career advice from a certain "Jerry Maguire" star, who punctuated her speech with, "'Oh, by the way, my name's Renee." As far as equipment, Harrison prefers a Nikon D3 camera, and his trick to getting the best shots is: "If you saw it [happen away from the viewfinder], you probably didn't get it. Concentrate, stay focused on what's happening around you, and try to predict what's going to happen before it does. And add to that a bit of luck." And what advice does the seasoned photog have for us everyday point-and-shooters? "Those mug shots of celebrities after they've been arrested? They are what you don€™t want! Generally speaking, there are numerous things you can do to improve your chances of taking a good pic." Read on for tips on how to hone your own camera skills, then check the slideshow to see some examples of Frazer's best work!

Our Top 10 Looks From Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week!

There is so much more to fashion than what comes down the runways in London, Paris, and Milan, and if you need further proof, take a look at the talent exhibited by designers who showed collections at Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week. A quick look through a couple of collections left me with the impression that the focus was on expression rather than the creation of a future trend, and collections are much more imaginative as a result-- I'm guessing not having Anna, Carine, and company perched in the front row has something to do with that, and it's immensely refreshing. From lingerie-inspired looks at Alberto Tous to the explosion of color that is the Agatha Ruiz De La Prada show, I was definitely impressed. Take a look at my slideshow to see the Spanish designers you'll want to keep an eye on come Spring!

Fashion Week London: Luella Bartley Spring 2010 Ready to Wear Collection

Luella Bartley recently presented her Spring 2010 Ready to Wear Collection at London Fashion Week. Her new collection goes dressier and less cheeky than we've come to expect from Bartley. It would be easy to imagine the late Jackie Kennedy wearing these pieces in 1965. Silhouettes were very feminine, with princess seams, pinched waists, and padded hips. She also showed several summer weight car coats in very ladylike "trapeze" shapes in happy, gorgeous colors, like a not-too-baby blue and a wonderful lipstick-y red. Other pieces included puffy dresses with velvet polka dots, sweetheart necklines, and Peter Pan collars. Bartley's recent collections have been far more precious with an abundance of frilly touches like dainty flower prints, ribbons, and tulle. By comparison, the latest collection is much more dressed up, despite the sugar pinks and lemon yellows. Even the one or two dresses with tulle trim appeared more sophisticated than one might expect from a designer who does things in an unapologetically girly way. MCM Launches New York Collection At New York Fashion Week

It was a glittery scene that only a luxury pairing such as MCM and Saks Fifth Avenue could draw when the iconic leather goods brand launched its New York collection at the upscale retailer's Fifth Avenue flagship store during fashion week. Talk about stars upon stars: I spotted everyone from models (Lydia Hearst) to fashion bigwigs (Fern Mallis) to socialites (Ann Dexter-Jones, otherwise known as mom to Charlotte, Mark, and Samantha Ronson) milling about, not to mention the gorgeous handbags from the collection displayed around the room. MCM, which gained a huge following in the label-loving '80s, has re-branded itself somewhat and evolved from its signature, logo-heavy bags to pieces that are more subtle and focused on craftsmanship rather than flash. And they've succeeded: they're made from the softest, "like buttah" leather that already feels broken-in, coupled with simple, quality stitching and understated hardware. When I wasn't gawking over the bags, I spent time chatting up a few folks, like designer (and Kanye West's former fiancee), Alexis Phifer. She dished that she's actually got a new line coming out in early 2010, this one a bit edgier and with more of a rocker-chic feel to it (and will include denim). No name for the label yet but more news to come towards the new year. Definitely one to look out for -- and you heard it here in the Hive first! Check the slideshow for a few of the party pics!
