The deconstructed look is nothing new: unfinished hems, inside-out seams, and bias cuts are practically mainstays on any contemporary collection these days. But when Alber Elbaz left a zipper exposed on a Lanvin dress back in 2003, deconstructed took on a whole new meaning, and a sexy one at that. It's making a statement with an understatement, and focusing on what can't be seen along with what can. A modestly crafted dress gets an entirely new identity with the addition of a zipper for all to see, yet not an ounce of extra skin is revealed, perhaps redefining what makes an item, or rather its wearer, sexy.
