Old Style: 7 Mean Shaheen Dresses for All You Vintage Fashionistas

Alfred Shaheen designed fabrics and clothing for over 40 years, creating one of the largest manufacturing operations that Hawaii would ever see. In the 1950s, he built an $8 million factory complex that allowed him to print, dye and finish all his own fabrics. And his textile designs are legendary! Inspired by Hawaiian, Polynesian and Asian cultures, each print was lovingly handscreened onto the fabric. Then that fabric was fashioned into everything from bombshell sundresses to elegant cocktail attire, from fun little playsuits to casual hostess gowns. Vintage Fashionista: Show Some Shoulder Like Wilma Flinstone!

This season's runways were packed with asymmetrical, one-shoulder dresses making the oft-forgotten shoulder the body part to bare this spring and summer. And while most designers attribute their inspiration for these designs to the Greek toga, one has to wonder if a little lady by the name of Wilma Flintstone, hailing from the Stone Age town of Bedrock, didn't act as a muse as well. As this lovely young mom showed in her simple white one-shoulder mini, this style of dress can be sexy without looking cheap, chic without looking tawdry--plus it's flattering for many figures. Just keep accessories to a minimum--earrings and a bracelet will usually work better than a necklace. For a collection of vintage versions of this trend, click SEE SLIDESHOW. Surely one of them will inspire a "yabbadabbadoo!"
