Unlike some vintage purists who cringe at the thought of deconstructing a vintage garment, I'm a huge fan of restructured vintage items. Well, within reason. No one wants to see a Fortuny or Worth gown ripped to shreds. But there's plenty of non-valuable vintage garments that could benefit from the hands of a talented designer. And the best recycled vintage cashmere designers are at Burning Torch, Inc.
Founded in 1999 by Karyn Craven, her line can now be found online at Burning Torch Boutique as well as in 200 boutiques and department stores in 35 states and 8 foreign countries. These designs are all constructed from recycled cashmere and reflect the company's commitment to recycling as well as its belief that "the energy of all time and history is in each and every garment."They're fabulous eco-cashmere finds for vintage fashionistas. Check out three of my favorites in this mini-slideshow!Mary Kincaid is the editor of ZUBURBIA, a vintage clothing blog for contemporary women that features the VPOD (Vintage Pick-of-the-Day) plus tips, information and advice for current and future vintage fashionistas. An avid vintage collector and former eBay Powerseller, her vintage clothing finds have been sold in both New York and Los Angeles boutiques. She currently buys for private clients (including one Beverly Hills vintage boutique) and plans to re-launch her own online shop in 2008.
