If you didn€™t get choked up during the Make Me A Supermodel finale when Holly was declared the winner then I hate to say it, but you might be a robot! This girl gave it everything and more to beat the three remaining guys.
After years of struggling to break into the modeling industry, she didn€™t give up and persevered in the face of rejection and criticism. Holly is a true testament to the old "believe in yourself" adage - and now she€™s a supermodel! I just spoke to the adorable country girl to get the scoop on her big win and more. Stylehive: How would you sum up this experience?Holly: It was really the hardest experience of my life, like I€™ve traveled and did things with modeling before, but nothing like this. We had no contact with the outside world- I couldn€™t call my parents or anything and those are the people that are my support team, like after a bad day you wanna call them to hear €˜oh it€™s okay, keep going€™ and all these things, so there€™s no support there, you€™re alone, there€™s no one there, so that was the hardest thing I think. Stylehive: You mentioned you€™ve been struggling to get into the modeling industry for quite a while. How did you find the strength and confidence to keep pursuing it after facing so much rejection?
Holly: I think it€™s just my faith, I just know that€™s what I€™m supposed to do. It sounds really weird to some people, but I think that I was born to do this, I know that€™s why. Because sometimes I wanted to quit, and I just couldn€™t and I don€™t know why when someone would tell me no I would just get right back up even stronger. It€™s a passion for this industry and I feel like if you don€™t have a passion for it, then you€™re just gonna break, you€™re just gonna forget about it when the first person says no to you and you€™re gonna quit. I never took no for an answer and I€™m never gonna take no for an answer, even down the road later on, I€™m just not gonna take that! Stylehive: What advice do you have for any aspiring models out there?
Holly: I would say follow you dreams, you can do it, because I came from a farm in southwest Virginia and look where I€™m at right now. I never let my opportunities limit me. People where I live don€™t get out of where we live. I live 2 hours away from a mall and like thousands if miles away from the modeling agencies, and I never let those opportunities limit me. Stylehive: What was going through your mind when you were standing up there in front of the judges for the last time?
Holly: I was prepared to lose, the odds looked really bad, I mean three boys with one girl. I just thought the odds look horrible and I was prepared to lose. So that€™s why it was such a big deal to hear yes, because I€™ve been told no my whole life and to hear yes just doesn€™t feel real, I just couldn€™t believe everything I had worked towards finally happened for me, I just couldn€™t believe it. I never cried that hard in my life!Stylehive: Is there a model whose career you€™d like to emulate?
Holly: Yeah, we got to meet her on the show and she€™s my favorite supermodel and that€™s Jessica Stam. I think we just relate so much because of her story- she€™s from a small town, from a farm in Canada and I€™m from a small town and a farm in Virginia. And she€™s everywhere- she€™s the face of BCBG, she€™s in every major fashion show right now. She was so nice and afterwards we just talked a lot and she€™s just the most down to earth person ever, I can€™t believe we got to meet her, it€™s crazy!Stylehive: What will you bring to the modeling industry?
Holly: I feel like my personality, despite what the boys would say that I didn€™t have a personality- I feel like that€™s what€™s gonna keep me going. Clients are gonna see that I don€™t take no for an answer and that I€™m driven and I€™m persistent and whatever they say to me, I€™m just gonna get up and go at it that much harder. I think that€™s gonna make me different than anyone else- just the true passion for the business. Stylehive: What are your best fashion and beauty secrets?
Holly: Always use eye cream, I would die without eye cream! Preparation H on eyes and everywhere! Clothes- just put everything together. I love flea markets and yard sales. I love old women€™s jewelry and clothes. I just love putting something kind of expensive with something really not expensive, and to just make something out of it. I like designers, but really the things I love is vintage- things that don€™t cost a lot. I€™m not one of those crazy people whose gonna go out and buy a $500 bag. I love designers and of course I will work for them, but my style is really more flea-markety and vintage, that€™s just who I am. Stylehive: Out of all the contestants, who do you think will succeed in the modeling industry?
Holly: I think Perry will, I think he has a really good attitude about it. He€™s good at acting and modeling, which is great because that€™s more money and more exposure and I think he€™ll be great in both fields. He has a great attitude and being a little cocky isn€™t that bad because it can help him in the end- people like the confidence he has, so I think it will work in his favor. I hope everyone does well, I can€™t wait to see them in magazines, really. Frankie, I heard got Calvin Klein, and that€™s really awesome I can€™t believe he got that already. I hope Casey does really well because he€™s gorgeous, I think he€™s really beautiful and I think he has a really great career ahead of him. Everyone was really good on the show and I feel like that€™s what€™s so different about this show- everyone was beautiful and it was hard! Stylehive: What€™s next for you?
Well I€™m actually moving to New York next week and from here, I don€™t know. Everything happens the way it€™s supposed to, that€™s the perfect thing about it, all this rejection that I did go through was for a reason. I wasn€™t supposed to be just a regular model, I was supposed to be a supermodel, so that€™s the great part about it. I€™m gonna take it day by day, I know I€™m gonna be successful after this and I€™m gonna be able to work every day. That was really my dream, just to work every day, be on the cover of every major fashion magazine, and just live my dream. I mean not everyone gets to live their dream and I€™m really blessed.
