Famed photographer/America's Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker gets my vote for the King of fashion week. Last season you couldn€™t go to a single show without seeing his sexy bald head in the front row! Seeing him after journeying from one side of Bryant Park to the other in the RAIN for the Red Dress Collection was a definite pick me up, and I of course jumped at the chance to interview him for some pre-fashion week scoop.
Stylehive: What shows are you looking forward to?Nigel Barker: There are so many! But I€™m about to go see the Heart Truth€™s show. It€™s great, I think it€™s really important that fashion embraces important causes and make political statements and isn€™t just about the frivolous side of life, but in fact very important things. Stylehive: What are you predicting about this season€™s shows?
NB: I€™m hoping to see a reflection of what€™s going on in our society right now. Ultimately this is an election year, there€™s a lot going on, we€™re at war still, and the economy€™s in recession, so it€™ll be interesting to see how that translates onto the runways. I imagine we€™re gonna see a little more conservative clothing, things will probably be a bit more tailored, colors will be a bit more subdued. Designers are clever, they manage to do that but inject a bit of hope into the look, and inspire you to wanna do better and pull yourself out of recession, so you wanna go to work, you wanna get dressed, and hopefully have a brighter look on life. It€™s always interesting to see what€™s going on. Stylehive: What trends are you loving for spring?
NB:I like the bright colors, I€™m always into bright colors. I€™m actually wearing red shoes right now. In England, styles for men are a lot more flamboyant than they are perhaps in America. They€™re a little less conservative in Europe. But I like it when guys step out of the box and don€™t just wear simple straight colors. Stylehive: Best advice for looking great?
NB: Believe in yourself. Have fun with it, and let the beauty come from within. .
