It was a dream come true. I have been watching All My Children since grade school, when I'd sit in front of the TV with my mom every summer for three hours straight, eating Totino's pizza, and watching, in order, All My Children, One Life To Live, and General Hospital. So when I got a chance to play a fashion reporter on Monday's episode (Feb. 18/12pm EST/ABC), and actually have a line with Erica Kane, I couldn't wait. Not only that €“ the episode was a big fashion show, so it was like practice for New York Fashion Week!
Call time was 5pm, and they couldn't promise us when we'd get out. I arrived in my pre-agreed to black suit and was looked over by their stylist David Zyla, who pronounced me "perfect." (When you're right, you're right.) A skinny tie, and voila, my look was set. I didn't even need makeup, unlike the several female fashionistas also starring in the scene with me, who needed buckets (poor dears). We were called to the set at about 7pm to shoot our scene. Erica Kane was hosting a lavish Red Dress fashion show to benefit the fight against heart disease in women. (Click here to see Stylehive's coverage of the real thing during New York Fashion Week.) The reporters were lined up around the stage for several takes of the runway show, and I learned the art of fake clapping (when actors are saying their lines, you "fake clap" and they dub applause sounds in later.)Then it was go time. Reporters from Elle, Interview, OK!, Glamour, and moi had to rattle off questions to Erica about the dress she was wearing. I nailed my line, to nobody's surprise (I feel a recurring role being offered in the near future). Full of hubris, I hung around backstage with the actors until I was insulted by All My Children male lead Mario Van Peebles, who, obviously threatened by my talent, dubbed me "Elton John."At which point, around 10:30, I bade my adieu! It was a late evening for the ages. Check it out the slideshow for some choice pics, then watch All My Children on ABC on Monday to see me in action. Then click back here tell me how I did!PHOTO CREDIT: © HEIDI GUTMAN/ABC
