By now I think it€™s safe to say we€™re all in agreement that Semi Precious Weapons front man Justin Tranter is the coolest guy EVER. He has a style so unique that simply calling it unique doesn€™t even begin to cover it; he has two massively successful jewelry lines; he single handedly created and defined €œGarage Glam,€ collaborated with DKNY on an exclusive sneaker, and his sound, style, and overall awesomeness has earned him a diverse blend of fans from all walks of life (prominent on the list is Kate Moss, and of course, the Stylehive editors!).
To conclude our week-long Justin Tranter love-fest, we€™re gonna bring you exclusive fashion and style tips straight from the Garage Glam guru himself, plus his hopes for future ventures. Whatever he does, and wherever he ends up, we€™re fully confident he€™ll succeed enormously - we just hope he remembers us! Stylehive: What€™s your advice for getting a signature lookJustin Tranter: Whether it€™s makeup, whether it€™s your clothing, whatever it is, defining your look is always a good thing. For clothing, you€™ve gotta pick the silhouette, because then you can mix and match everything, but as long as it always follows the same silhouette, then people are always gonna recognize what you€™re wearing, and be like €˜oh my god, she looks amazing, that€™s Sabrina€™s style.€™ And with makeup - it€™s just like wearing the same general look, all the time - at least when you go out, maybe not everyday, but at least every time you go out. Stylehive: You're style is definitely not what you see people everyday, I€™m assuming you get quite a few stares when you walk down the street
JT: Yes, A LOT! It€™s funny though, I will be in public sometimes, just walking down the street, and people will get in fights over me! Like some guy will start yelling €˜oh you f***ing freak blab blah blah€™ and €˜what the f**k is your problem€™ and then some woman will be like €˜I think he looks fabulous!' So I€™ll be walking down the street and literally incite riots - it€™s just fantastic!Stylehive: How do you get used to that?
JT: I don€™t know, my whole childhood, I always kind of looked crazy, and always looked different, so I guess I€™m kind of used to it. This is what New York is all about! I actually find, I mean a lot of New Yorkers love it, but I find that like they€™re much more excited by a look everywhere else in the country - they love it! New York is supposed to be the craziest place in the world, but unfortunately, it€™s just NOT anymore. Stylehive: Do you plan on venturing into other areas or design - like clothing or bags?
JT: I don€™t ever wanna do clothing. I just can€™t see myself doing it, and I wouldn€™t want to put my name on it if someone else was doing the majority of the designing. But I really wanna do handbags. I have a lot of ideas. And I really wanna do women€™s shoes. I don€™t wanna do men€™s shoes. It€™s boring! I mean I could do it, but no one would buy it, it would be like €˜well this is a men€™s shoe, with a four inch heel€™- it just wouldn€™t go! But I really wanna do women€™s shoes and bags, big time, and I want them all to have jewelry elements. I want the bags to have diamonds and 14 karat gold chains hanging off of them, and have them be like ridiculous 3 thousand dollar showpieces. And I would definitely love to do a makeup collaboration with somebody, with like MAC.Stylehive: What is your best advice for looking great?
JT: Just go for it! I mean maybe it€™s just me, and I€™m totally mistaken, but I feel like if I have an idea, and I wanna just do it, and I do it, I feel SO much better, and I feel so much more fabulous. And I don€™t think everyone has to look crazy, I really don€™t, because then I wouldn€™t stand out as much! But I think the best advice is just going for it. And I think there€™s nothing wrong with putting in an effort, you know, like you can be an intelligent woman and still spend 45 minutes getting ready. I mean the guys in my band are straight guys, who care about how they look, it€™s OKAY, they look amazing! Stylehive:You definitely march to the beat of your own drummer, and you made it work. Any advice for others on how to do the same?
JT: As far as designing, and doing whatever it is that you want to do, my best advice I can give is also just do it. I went to music school and I ended up in jewelry, and I do music AND jewelry, and the only reason the jewelry line works is because I just did it- the opportunity presented itself and I went for it. And then to take it to a high end brand, it was just a whole bunch of work and a bunch of knocking on doors and convincing Barney€™s that it was the right choice, but I did it. So just go for it, just do it, because all that can happen is someone can say no, and then call someone else.
