Style Icons: The Pirelli Calendar Girls

The Italians have always been the masters of food and fashion. And while gelato, authentic Italian pizza, and gourmet cheese are all delicious, the fashion is what's truly exquisite! There is nothing more inspiring as the eye-candy that is the Pirelli Calendar! It's where high fashion, glamor, and the biggest models of each era come together to celebrate beauty, the female form, and iconic photography. This year's calendar was shot by famed photog Patrick Demarchelier in Shanghai, dressing models Gemma Ward, Agyness Dyen and Coco Rocha, to name a few, as geisha girls, ala Christian Dior.

The calendar started in 1964 as a corporate gift, and was never sold to the public, given only to Pirelli VIPs and celebrities, making the calendar the coveted "it" item of the time. Pirelli shot it originally as pinup girls and artistic nudes, but over the years it has evolved into what it is today... a place where top portrait photographers, models, and celebrities shoot fashion photos so beautiful, it could put Vogue to shame. Selma Blair, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Naomi Cambel, Gisele Bündchen, Iman, Christy Turlington... thats just a handful of Pirelli girls.

The only thing better than getting your hands on a coveted Pirelli calendar? Getting the book! Thanks to Amazon, we can now scour the pages that cover 40 years of Pirelli icons.
