Everyone loves a cozy armchair or a comfy couch, but let's be real: there are only so many ways to recline on a sofa or a chair. What if, instead of dictating how you lounge, your furniture responded to your body? This is precisely the goal of the Sitscape project, an exciting experiment in furniture design from Hackenbroich Architekten that aims to expand the dynamic relationship between people and their furniture.
Constructed of laminated wood, white leather, steel and aluminum, the Sitscape is a six-yard long seating zone that transforms the usual use of a couch. The design incorporates six different seating positions and smooth transformations between them. In this way the Sitscape offers familiar possibilities for relaxing as well as various unexpected possibilties (to be discovered and determined by the user) offered by the transitional areas between the seated positions which have to be discovered by the clients.I like the idea of a seating zone that promises multiple reclining positions and untold other uses, and I love the sleek minimal design of the Sitscape. But... I love my overstuffed sofas too. Would you ever trade your Crate & Barrel couch for this? Tell me in Comments!
