NYFW Runway Report: Abaeté Gives MedievaI-Inspired Fashion a Modern Twist

Abaeté designer Laura Poretzky has a timeless formula that keeps fans of the line coming back for more. The fall/winter €™08 collection has taken a dark turn, but it's nonetheless still timelessly chic, girly, and utterly fabulous. Laura expanded beyond the dress-centric realm we usually see from her, veering into the separates category with a collection that showcased beautiful tops, skirts, pants, outerwear, and knitwear while still, as she describes, €œstaying true to the spirit of my brand identity: French femininity, Brazilian sensuality, and American simplicity.€ She was strongly inspired by medieval times for this collection, seen in the armor-inspired construction, intricate draping, precise silhouettes, and metal sequins, but still incorporated modern femininity with flowy chiffon dresses, ruffles, and flower detailing.

Stylehive Scorecard
Color Palette: Black, Gray, Slate Blue, Burgundy, Dark Purple
Cuts/styles: Wide leg pants, full circle skirts, structured dresses, cinched waists.
Trend Alert: Knitted socks with heels (all shoes were part of her collaboration with Payless. Hello fabulous shoes at amazing prices!!)
Celeb Sighting: Sophia Bush, who gushed about the collection to Stylehive after the show: €œI€™m such a fan of Laura and everything that she does and I think that she€™s really taken it up another level with this show. It was gorgeous, it was totally in my color palette, which I love, and I€™m gonna be ordering quite a bit. I loved the one shoulder white with sequin studs. I€™m gonna wear it as soon as possible!€
