One of the most valuable lessons I€™ve learned working in fashion is to remove €˜that will never look good on me€™ from my vocabulary.' True, there are some cuts, shapes, styles, and so on that simply don€™t work on some people, sometimes, actually, most of the time, fashion will surprise you and an item you never in a million years dreamed of pulling off can look spectacular on you- you just gotta go for it!
Let's go back in time to about two months ago when my life was consumed by Fashion Week madness. After days and days of shows and too many wardrobe changes to even count, I suddenly found myself very bored with my wardrobe and unable to shake overwhelming craving for something new. Call it vanity if you will, but I was also getting pretty PO€™d by the fact that I was only photographed for an outfit ONCE. Fine, my ensemble choices were a little bit on the safe side, but still! Although free time is nonexistent during this crazy week, I high-tailed it to the nearest clothing store in between shows, determined to find something WOW-inducing. To my utter frustration, everything was either not in my size, too expensive, too similar to items I already had, not special enough, or items I would never be caught dead in- or would I? The only thing that managed to grab my attention was a Madison Marcus Ruffle Tank (pictured above). The top was pretty cute and I liked the color, but ruffles?? And then came the internal debate: €˜Who cares if ruffles are one of the hottest spring trends, ruffles look terrible on me, I could never pull off a ruffled top! Wait a minute, have I ever even tried on a ruffled top? Oh my goodness, no I haven€™t!€™ So I took the plunge, and I don€™t think the end of this tale will come as much of a shock, but I LOVED it! The top fit me perfectly and was so flattering I almost thought my determination to go home with a new purchase was causing me to hallucinate! I quickly headed back to my apartment for a quick wardrobe change (I paired the top with black skinny jeans and black suede pumps, and a silver cuff bracelet, in case you were wondering), and hustled back to the tents. I kid you not, the second I entered the tents, I was approached by fashion photographers from every direction asking to take my picture. Mission accomplished!!! The moral of the story: try before you buy, because you never know, it might look fly! Thanks to that little experience, I am now an avid ruffle proponent. Ruffles are one of spring€™s HOTTEST trends, but that doesn€™t matter to me, I will be rocking the look long after the trend has passed. Alright, enough talk, check my SLIDESHOW for some more ruffled looks that I€™m craving. How do YOU feel about the ruffled look? Is there a trend you never thought you could pull off that you are now loving? Tell us your tales in comments!
