Come fall 2008, all the Teletubbies are gonna be envying Tinky Winky's style. I'm not sure if the credit should go to the Tinks or everyone's favorite dinosaur Barney, but purple was EVERYWHERE this past New York Fashion Week, and will be the shade to crave when fall hits. From electric purple, to pale purple, to plum, to violet, and every shade in between, this snazzy hue is the one thing preventing us all from classifying the fall '08 runway collections and bleak, drab, and dreary.
We saw psychedelic purples to enhance the swinging 60's art-nouveau chic vibe at Anna Sui, flirty dresses in rich purple Abaete and Vivienne Tam; gorgeous purple gowns at Angel Sanchez and Badgley Mischka; electric purple at Temperley London and Iodice, purple flowers at Rebecca Taylor; rich wine-shaded purple at Carmen Marc Valvo, pale as ice purple at Michael Kors. From cocktail dresses to evening gowns, from bold looks to subdued ones, from floaty chiffon to heavy wool, from monochrome to patterned and multicolored- purple was the anchor behind just about every look this season.
