NYFW Runway Report: DVF's New Wrap-Free Collection

The woman responsible for bringing back the effortlessly easy to wear, ultra-flattering, wrap dress is evolving into even more fabulous territories, an apparently bidding adieu to conquered territories, because we didn€™t see a single wrap dress on the Diane Von Furstenberg fall/winter €™08 runway presentation. Instead, Diane showcased a truly stunning array of separates, from coats, to skirts, to blazers, to tops.

Diane drew inspiration from all across the globe. We saw sleek, feminine silhouettes paired with masculine tailoring, oversized military coats with delicate lingerie-slip dresses, lace peeking from under structured pencil skirts, masculine sweaters paired with ultra-feminine blouses, and harsh coats softened by waist-cinching belts, all of which were inspired by the dark streets of 1940€™s Berlin.

The mostly dark color palette was brightened and infused with a more sensual and flirty vibe with bright color accents, lace, and muted prints. Diane also drew inspiration from the vivid colors and Asian florals of Shanghai, and we saw a stunning array of vibrant Art Deco prints in tones of emerald green, red, teal, and fuchsia.

Diane also found inspiration close to home, and her final looks reflected the classic femme-fatale figure- with stunning beaded flapper dresses, and lean column gowns in black, bronze, gunmetal, and silver tones.

Overall, it was a stunning celebration of clothes for women from all walks of life, all interconnected by the immense fabulous-ness oozing out of each and every look.

Phillip Bloch's Review: : €œIt was very 40€™s, I loved the glamorous 40€™s, like the music, the music and the clothes when the morph together it€™s a great beat. I loved the layering, and I loved, loved, LOVED that one kind of Asian inspired dress that I thought was so beautiful- I love when she does Asian inspired. I think the great thing about Diane is that she€™s so multi-cultural herself and I love when she takes those influences and puts them into the clothes. I think there was definitely a universal feel to this- a little Asian, there was a little European, there was a little country.€
