New York Fashion Week Runway: Rosa Cha Brings Sao Paulo To Bryant Park

One thing I always love about swimwear shows is the relaxed vibe - ignore the flashing lights and tons of crowds and you may as well be laying out on the beach. As for the looks that defined Rosa Cha Spring 2009, it was impossible not to take note of their structured nature, which is so unexpected for the swimwear category. Subtle pleats and folds added an air of elegance as designer Amir Slama's Brazilian roots took hold, resulting in the kind of devastatingly sexy pieces that ensure all eyes will be- and stay- on the wearer. The color palette was minimal, but just enough not to overwhelm Slama's true prowess-- details in design. Leather belts, metal rings, and a generous smattering of Swarovski crystal and mesh stripes were the icing on the optical white and vibrant green pieces, and deep v-necks and structured bandeaus ensured the looks were equally functional and flattering on or off the runways. Model Chanel Iman's wispy, floor-length overalls had an ethereal feel, another unexpected notion when it comes to swimwear, and for a brief moment the sound of the rain pounding on the tents outside became that of waves crashing on the shores of Sao Paulo.
