I know exactly where Eric Damon, the genius behind all the incredible styles we lust over each week on the hit show Gossip Girl, is going to find looks for upcoming episodes: the Nanette Lepore showroom! How do I know this? Because each look that sauntered down the runway during the fall/winter €™08 show simply screamed €˜Serena van der Woodsen€™- not surprising since the collection was inspired by the high-society party girl.
The looks summoned the jet-setting fashionista who always has a fabulous party to go to. We saw beautiful ladylike-suits spiced up with sparkly tiaras and sexy feminine touches like sheer lace, sleek high-waisted skirts with gorgeously structured pleats in the back, cropped jackets reminiscent of Jackie O infused with a playful modern twist; taffeta tops with exaggerated bows, floaty chiffon blouses, sequined cami۪s paired with either wide or slim-leg pants, and daringly curve-hugging ensembles for the diva who likes to flaunt what she's got.The party girl spirit was captured with shimmery fabrics, sparkling tweeds, glittery eye makeup, and ultra-femme touches like studded pearls to decorate the neckline and brooch appliqu̩s. While black was the dominant shade, the collection was invigorated by a spectrum of wine-shades such as icy champagne pink, sensuous Merlot, rich Chianti, bold fuchsia and striking prints including sophisticated stripes and flirty florals in an array of pinks and teals- resulting in looks that were both daringly sexy and innocently sweet. Also enlivening the looks were the shoes (all from the Nanette Lepore shoe line)- there were elegant d'Orsay pumps in soft pinks and teal with black patent bows, suede ankle boots in stunning shades like peacock, fuchsia, and Bordeaux, and ankle strap pumps that dazzled in black sequins, as well as in teal and Merlot. This collection was clearly for the fashion-savvy girl- all items were perfectly crafted, impeccably tailored, and intricately folded and draped to create the exact sort of unique, fashion-forward styles every society girl - scratch that - every girl, craves.
