One year ago publicists didn€™t even know how to spell her name. Thanks to a starring role on a little show called Gossip Girl, which skyrocketed her to €˜It Girl€™ status, these days when Leighton Meester hits up the fashion show circuit, she€™s the main attraction. At the Julie Haus Spring €™09 show, with celebrity attendees including Molly Sims, Jamie Lynne Sigler, Robert Buckley and Matthew Settle, it was Leighton who sent flashbulbs ablaze and had reporters scrambling to nab an interview. Considering she€™s one of my favorite fashion muses, I wasn€™t gonna let the chance to talk to the gal whose the subject of so many of our style steals slip me by.
Stylehive: What are your favorite trends for fall?Leighton: Actually there was one that was in the show- she paired platforms with little mini stockings on, it was really cute, it adds like an instant rock and roll edge to anything. Stylehive: Have you always been into fashion?
Leighton: Somewhat. I grew up in Florida and we hung out in shorts and a tee shirt most of the time. But I mean flipping through my mom€™s magazines and stuff was always interesting to me, but it€™s more of a recent thing for me that I€™ve really started to love fashion.Stylehive: I€™m sure being on the show really impacted that.
Leighton: Oh yeah, being on the show has really influenced me a lot. It€™s not that it made me love fashion because I really always have, but it€™s made me much more aware of trends and designers and much more creative when it comes to dressing up, much more comfortable in different styles and knowledgeable as to what looks good and what feels good. Stylehive: Did you have any style icons growing up?
Leighton: Well my mom is very stylish, I do have to say, she really was. And obviously I grew up watching movies and TV shows and I love old movies. I love Grace Kelly and Bette Davis and Audrey Hepburn, all that. Watching a bunch of old movies and TV - I feel like that€™s why I€™m an actress, because different clothes bring on different sides of my personality. Whenever I put on a dress, depending on what it looks like, it brings on a different character. Stylehive: Would you describe your style as being similar to Blair€™s at all?
Leighton: No, I mean I think somewhat- I do admire her style, but it€™s a bit preppy for me, I like to mix it up a little bit. But, that being said, I do love her style and she€™s very courageous, and most of the stuff she wears I adore.
