After narrowly missing her at a bunch of New York Fashion Week shows, I finally caught up with the beautiful Lindsay Price after the Project Runway finale show, and I got a two for one deal because the star was accompanied by the show's costume designer, Dan Lawson! Lindsay plays fashion designer Victory on the new hit series (her character is said to be based on Cynthia Rowley), but Lindsay tells me she wasn€™t much of a fashion-maven prior to being cast in the role. In fact, this season€™s Peter Som show marked the loss of her fashion-week virginity.
Read on to see for Lindsay and Dan's looking-great secrets!Stylehive: What€™d you think of the Project Runway finale?Lindsay Price: I just admire them so much for putting their first collections together. I mean I can€™t imagine how daunting that task is and they were all beautiful, just gorgeous. Stylehive: Favorite shows this week?
Lindsay: I was very proud of Amanda Ross who style the Dennis Basso show, some of those gowns were so elegant. But Peter Som is definitely my favorite. It was my first and it was my favorite.
Dan Lawson: I would say the Project Runway show. It€™s a dream come true to come here, very exciting, and I know Lindsay mentioned the Peter Som show which was exciting. And I have to tell you, I thought the Michael Kors show was such a treat, from the get-go it was so exciting. I loved what he did pulling the late 50€™s early 60€™s influence into the wardrobe; I loved seeing the men as well as the women coming down the runway. I thought it was just beautiful and very wearable and just a gorgeous, gorgeous line. It€™s a real feather in his cap.Stylehive: Best tip for looking great?
Lindsay: Feeling great, really. And dress appropriately for where you€™re going. Whatever feels good on, confidence is the best.
Dan: Play to your attributes - what works best on you. And make sure that what you wear fits. Fit is more than half the battle and I think people forget that. They€™re so used to running into the stores and buying ready to wear and not altering it, not taking care of it and not making sure that it€™s gonna look right on you and I think that fit is key. Stylehive: Best tip for achieving a unique personal style?
Dan: Wear what you love. I think that if you feel good in what you€™re wearing and you love what you€™re wearing you€™re gonna put that out there and people will respond to it. Stylehive: So Dan, tell me how you go about styling the looks for each of the characters on the show?
Dan: We put the story first. The story first, the character first, the fashion is second, it really is. I think if it€™s appropriate for the show then the audience will respond to it in a positive way. So I always start with the story, I always start with the characters, what the director€™s asking for, Oliver Goldstick who€™s our executive producer and writer - what he€™s looking for in the characters - and it really does start there. And then we have a fashion consultant on the show who I work very closely with - Amanda Ross - and we put our heads together and sort of figure out moment by moment whose gonna be in what scene and with whom and what€™s the background going to be- do they have to go from the gym to lunch to an evening out. You know, what€™s the action I guess within the script that we have to cater to. Stylehive: Any go-to designers?
Dan: I absolutely adore Peter Som, his work has been amazing on the show. All the designers have been amazing with letting us borrow things and what not. Naeem Kahn€™s work is beautiful that we€™ve used on the show. And Dennis Basso. We€™ve really been lucky, we€™ve had the cream. Stylehive: Lindsay, what are your can't-leave-home-without essentials?
Lindsay: It€™s the bare essentials: my cell phone, my keys so I can get in, and Dior lip gloss!Catch Lipstick Jungle airs Thursday nights at 10/9c on NBC.
