Next Big Thing: Nancy Rose's Designs Bloom With Defiance

Inspired by the interplay between fashion and art, Nancy Rose makes dramatic pieces destined for the femme fatale. Using geometrical shapes and the art of the Picasso-era synthetic cubist Tamara de Lempicka, the collection can be described as feminine with a hint of defiance, or demure with a slice of edge. What Nancy says about being Stylehive's Next Big Thing, "I find myself growing and evolving with each season, finding inspiration in new sources and discovering different facets of myself and what I am capable of creatively. With each collection I set new goals for myself and try to break the mold of what€™s out there. I am thrilled and full of anticipation of what is to come." Read on to meet Nancy and see the SLIDESHOW of her alluring spring and fall collections.

Meet Nancy
"I attended Penn State University where I majored in Art and Art History. After graduation I enrolled in the Fashion design program at Parsons School of Design."

Nancy's Inspirations
"Principles of natural movement and the body inspire my vision of how fabric should drape, and my study of art has translated powerfully into my use of color and manipulation of silhouette. My clothes rely heavily on special detailing- a particular trim or print or texture that makes it special- usually inspired by a painting, or a sculpture, or even a beautiful architecture. Anything unique that provokes thought and catches my eye can be a source of inspiration."

What's Next for Nancy
"I can see myself designing a line of jewelry in the near future. For my Holiday 08 collection I experimented with mosaics of jewels and stones as embellishment for the garments. I think a great piece of jewelry has the power to transform a garment, and I would love to create jewelry that complements the clothing as well as makes a statement on its own."
