MyStyle 3-Way: Celine's Python Trench for Office, Date and Gettin' Down!

Standout pieces are hard to forget. Think Lindsay Lohan's motorcycle gloves, Katie Holmes' red oversized Birkin bag or Mary-Kate Olsen's Chanel knee-high gladiator sandals. But unlike celebrities, most of us don't have the luxury of showcasing an item only once. Luckily, with some creativity you can easily wear an "It" piece over and over. Hopefully my new column will serve as inspiration.

This week, I'm showing how to get many uses from a flashy metallic coat. Thanks to my friends at BPCM, I was able to borrow this stunning gold python jacket from Celine. There's also a myriad of metallic alternatives readily available online (I've included a steal, a splurge and a maternity option in my hive!). Here's how I suggest mixing it up:

At the Office

Who said you can't wear metallics during the day? Gold, silver and bronze are sunlight (or artificial work light) appropriate as long as you turn down the flash with neutrals. I've paired the trench with a gray Tart skirt, Shopbop tank and nude Via Spiga flats. Keep your outfit as monochromatic as possible in grays, olives, nudes and even super pale pastels.

Casual Date

The great thing about a blingin' coat is it can take any look from drab to fab. Use this to your advantage. Nothing is sexier than a plain white tank (personally, I'm a Hanes girl: cheap and comfy). Throw it on over skinny jeans, like these from Paige, slip on a pair of heels and grab a simple clutch. The result? Effortlessly cool.

Night on the Town

Recently, celebrities of all ages have rocked the trench as a dress on the red carpet. It cinches the waist and adds mystery to what's underneath. Please do wear something underneath, however. Flashers are never fashionable. Another thing to remember? Choose a bold colored shoe, like my Pedro Garcia orange stilettos. It'll balance out the display of skin.
