March Madness goes Digital

March Madness, the annual NCAA basketball tournament pits top college basketball teams against one another. During the frenzied playoffs, top teams are narrowed during a staged single elimination format. Since it€™s beginnings in 1930 the tournament holds a legacy of dynasty teams and underdog winners. A countless number of office pools drain the American economy of thousands of productive work hours topping $237 million.

With the massification of the iPod into consumer media habits, Apple€™s CEO Steve Jobs decided to offer the 2006 men€™s March Madness tournament games on demand. Distributed by CBS€™s College Sports TV, the games are available in an edited format at the Apple iTunes Music store. The price is $1.99 per game. All 63 of the games can be purchased as a Season Pass for $19.99. The games can be downloaded to video iPods, or viewed using the iTunes on a Mac or PC. Now that basketball fans can view games on the subway, at work and at the gym the tournament has now become truly digital. Let the madness begin!
