CFDA Vogue Finalist Justin Giunta Says Turn Off Your TV and Just Do It!

Like a fireworks display where you don't know what is coming up next but you just know it's going to be awesome, Justin Giunta is an explosive show of talent and color. Between designing his much-adored Subversive Jewelry line, painting fine art, and carrying the title of CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, Justin found a second to chat it up with me about everything, from where he finds inspiration to infinite pearls of wisdom. Read on about the design phenom who has got the fashion world's knickers all in a twist.

Stylehive: So tell me, how does inspiration hit the fabulous Justin Giunta?
Justin Giunta: I draw every day! Recording cues, whether, color, shape, or ambiance, whenever something feels rich enough to interpret through jewelry. Inspiration happens frequently!

SH: And what are your favorite elements to work with?
JG: Rough bronze, steel and tin from ethnic cultures, coupled with vintage pearls, and chain, chain, chain!

SH: So what materials have you not worked with, if any, that you are looking to tackle?
JG: People are usually amazed, we don't do any stone cutting or setting, which leaves that whole process to be explored.

SH: What does Subversive Jewelry stand for in your mind?
JG: For me, Subversive stands for an alternative way of appreciating beauty and adornment. It is a pursuit of art and fashion at the same time.

SH: Now to the important stuff€¦what's playing on your Ipod?
JG: Everything! M.I.A for sure. Belle and Sebastian, "If You're Feeling Sinister," which I often am, and the rap classic Spoonie G.

SH: What advice would you give to people looking to get into your field?
JG: Just do it! At some point in my education it clicked. There is no hierarchy of imagery, and as long as you honestly pursue your passions, your voice will inevitably shine through. The more you investigate, contemplate, and make, the better your chances of hitting upon something truly unique and yours

SH: What advice would you give to people period?
JG: Stop wasting your time watching reality TV and start living your own reality!
