For inspiration for their fall 2008 collections, it seems like our favorite designers whipped out their old Nirvana and Pearl Jam records and got back into the Seattle spirit because plaid was the standout trend on every runway from New York to London to Milan to Paris and LA. Fashion heavy-hitters like Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana , Vivienne Westwood, Whitley Cross, Chanel and loads of others experimented with the timeless pattern, updating it by playing with colors, textures, cuts, and a variety of accessories.
Celebrities are always way ahead of the rest of us when it comes to spreading the trend love, so of course, plaid is making its way onto the taut bodies of some of our favorite style-setting celebs which inevitably means in a few months time, plaid will be at the top of everyone€™s €˜I need this RIGHT NOW€™ list. I was a little iffy on this whole plaid craze at first, but after spotting Nicky Hilton at the Alice + Olivia fall 2008 presentation in a super cute plaid mini dress, I had to reassess my stance. See this is why we need celebrities- sometimes it just takes seeing someone else rocking a look we hastily dismissed as hideous to teach us not to be so quick to judge. The plaid trend is gaining momentum now, with some cute plaid looks trickling onto the racks as we speak, but come fall, we will all be in the midst of some serious plaid mania.
