This nifty device saves can prevent a troublesome and perhaps unnecessary trip to the mechanic. To use it, you plug the cellphone-sized CarMD into your car€™s On Board Diagnostic data link connector (OBD2) which is usually found under or near the dashboard. After it€™s plugged in, turn on the ignition and the tester downloads information from your vehicle€™s computer chip. A green signal light verifies that your car is healthy, yellow means there could be a problem, and a red light indicates that service is required.
After the information is collected from your car, you plug the USB tester into your computer. The CarMD website allows you to download reports telling you what the remedy needed and the approximate cost. The website even has a 24-hour call center with automotive technicians to help you out.
