Hot in the Hive: Throw Your Shoes In The Air Like You Just Don't Care

There are 17 pairs of sneakers haphazardly strewn over a telephone wire in our neighborhood. We counted them last week, too, and there were only 15.

Um, what's going on?

Apparently, this little gesture is either meant to: A) celebrate the last day of school or B) mark gang territory. (We seriously hope it's option A - our apartment costs too much for us to be worrying about drive-by's.)

Whatever the reason, the "sneaker thrown over a wire thing" has become an icon of neighborhood life, and this quirky handmade necklace by Lady Leisure captures its essence perfectly. Featuring two gold-plated sneaker charms attached to a chain, throw 'em around your neck and tie. Odd, fun and anti-establishment, just like the "sneaker thrown over a wire thing" itself.
