Take a close look at Sandra Backlund's collection. You may be overcome with tactile sensory overload. Completely handmade, Sandra's designs take knitting to a new level. These are definitely not your typical cardi knit by granny! Transforming strands of yarn into wearable sculpture is no easy feat. Each garment is created from many small pieces that are combined into dramatic sweaters, dresses, shrugs and leggings. Enormous cable knits; pom pons and crochet weavings embellish each collection. One particular style from the Perfect Hurts collection harks back to the Elizabethan Era with its fan collar and puffed sleeves. The dress is made of crochet knit and is interwoven with ribbon and satin. All of Backlund's pieces are created by hand and they meant to look that way. In this way Sandra hopes to preserve the traditional craft techniques and take them to a new level.
