We've all been to that holiday party where the interior is so overdone that it looks like Santa's village invaded, set up shop, and never quite left... 10 years ago. That's enough to send us all dashing through the snow, over the river, through the woods, and back to our own apartments where the holiday decor begins and ends with that empty holiday edition Starbucks cup (from yesterday, of course) still sitting on our desks.
Seriously, sometimes, it's not just the weather that's frightful. This holiday season, keep your guest count up and opt for a tasteful display, one that's based on accenting what's there rather than reinventing entire rooms. Be creative and make the most out of your decor by selecting for pieces that aren't necessarily made for this time of year, but are festive nonetheless. Try designating one or two areas as focal points (the tree, dinner table, and/or mantel) and allow them to really shine by keeping the rest of your decor simple.
