After the longest cold-stretch ever, Summer is finally in the air. Time to swap your heavy boots for wear-everywhere sandals, chunky layers for airy dresses, and to give your flat-iron a rest by rocking the always sexy beachy wave look. This style always has and always will be one of the hottest hair-trends and is bigger than ever this season, with just about every celeb rocking an undone coif.
Despite what you may have heard, this effortless look does not require all that much effort. I spoke to Cutler stylist Jenny Balding, who has tamed the tresses of some of the hottest celebs, to get the 411 on how to create this sexy summer style with minimum effort and maximum results. Jenny's Step-by-Step GuideStep 1: Wash and condition your hair and then towel dry. Always towel dry your hair before putting product in, if it's soaking wet it won't absorb anything, it will just dilute it.
Step 2:Apply an anti-frizz balm, I suggest Redken Outshine. Apply a small amount from the mid-length to the ends and then let it air dry.
Step 3: Take two sections at the back of the head and twist each section and pin it, the buns should be on either side behind each ear. Do it really low because you don't want the waves up at the top of your head, you want the kink starting off just at your nape and coming down.
Step 4: Leave it to dry for a while, like while you're getting ready, and when you shake it out, it will be really nice and wavy. Why this Works
When you're tying the hair up, twisting it and pinning it, you're actually tucking in the top layer of hair, so when you bring it down it's all gonna be smoothed out because you're not going against the grain of the hair, you're only twisting it, so it gives soft kind of frizz-free beachy wave. I'm a bit anti-scrunching these days because it can actually make the hair frizzy, only do it if you have a little bit of texture anyway. Mouse has alcohol in it, so it will make your hair look a little bit drier and morefrizzy. When you're scrunching the hair too much, you're actually ruffling up the top layer. 3 More of Jenny's Best Kept Secrets
1. Going to bed with a loose braid in your hair is also a good trick - from the nape of your neck down. It's an easy, tool-free way to create loose waves.
2. If you don't want to spend money on a product, mix a little salt and water together in a water bottle, and spray it in, that will help you achieve the same effect.
3. Always use a heat protector, at the salon we use Cutler Protectant Treatment Spray . It's not just to blowdry with, it's just to protect your hair anyway, it's like spraying a really nice, light conditioner in your hair. it moisturizes the hair and it's very lightweight as well, so even if you have fine-textured hair, this is ideal for it. It gives the hair a nice protectant layer without weighing it down. Also Try: Redken Spray Starch 15 Heat Memory Styler.
