Forget virus protection- if you own a laptop, a well-designed laptop bag is the single most important accessory you can buy. Okay, I'm sort of kidding, but even so I like to think my last laptop's life was cut short by the flimsy Kate Spade tote I insisted in carrying it in and not by the bazillion songs I downloaded while in college. Anyway, laptop totes have come a long way from the cringe-worthy cases and sleeves of yesterday, and they're slowly but surely making their way into much more fashionable territory. Case in point: Acme Made's computer totes which feature padded sleeves, pockets for cords and adapters, zippered closures, and stylish leather trims. The highly functional totes can double as weekend bags when the laptop sleeve is removed, and retail anywhere from $79.99 to $359.99. But why pay full price? We're giving away a $300 Acme Made gift certificate to one lucky Hiver! To find out how to enter the contest, read on!

Tell us IN COMMENTS:

If you were to design a laptop bag, what would it look like? You can click over to Acme Made for ideas.

Be creative! We'll pick a winner on Friday. Good luck! And don't forget to check out the slideshow for our favorite Acme Made totes!

It would be colorful and funky. I would make sure there would be enough compartments for a cell phone, charger cables and a wallet. I would also throw in a matching make up bag and a key ring chain. It would preferable be a tote but you would also be able to convert it into a back pack for easy travel. It won't be bulky but it would be large and roomy to fit everything in.

It would come in several colors and materials. Because not everyone can afford a leather laptop bag, but some of us want one. It would give the option to hold it from two handles, like a tote, or wear it cross-body, by attaching a strap to two rings on the sides. It would be sturdy, but not too heavy on its own. It would have a padded bottom, so it can be placed on the floor without banging the laptop inside. It would have other pockets for wires and CDs.

I would be a slick style tote, that would have black croc leather print style, making it look hot, but inside, there would be covered in rubber cushion sponge to keep it protected and for easy access. Inside there would a compartment for you to organize all wires, Cd's , sticks. mouse ect. for organized easy access as well. This way the tote would not be all bulky! So, it's professional, stylish sexy and hot!

If I were to design my own bag it would most likely be "green". I would use vintage or recycled fabric in a versatile print. It would be padded and lined with waterproof fabric, be completely functional, have an exterior magazine pocket, an exterior cell phone pouch, have both short handles & a removable shoulder strap. A water bottle pouch would be a plus as well. |-D Beautiful

Since we're talking singular (one bag right?) and not a whole line, which I could go on and on about, then I would say that I would make it as meek yet very stylish to make it stand out as if it was any other accessory (singular). I find people carrying multiple bags really stressful to look at, a purse, a gym bag, groceries, and a laptop bag...it's all just too much! Who wants to be a Bag Lady anyway? I don't...

continuation: Well my bag will not just be used for laptops. My bag will have enough compartments to store whatever is in your purse, a laptop, and then some YET, it won't be as bulky as you'll think. Think a Laptop, a wallet, documents, and cosmetic compartments, just enough space to survive from day to evening if needed. My laptop bag will come in real or faux leather with modern lines and will surely stop an artist singing about you "Bag lady you gone hurt your back Dragging all them bags like that I guess nobody ever told you All you must hold on to Is you, is you, is you" -Eryka Badu

My design would be the perfect marriage of fashion and function. Like a structured vintage and elusive Birkin bag in black saltwater croc with diamond hardware, I would design with more affordable faux croc, moissanite instead of diamonds, and upon opening the tote, you would discover a vintage fabric sleeve, and contrasting vintage fabric inside of a plethora of pockets to hold everything from cell phone to cords, with a lighted key snap, and one large inner zip pocket for credit cards, etc. I must be dreaming....

Gotta look the part, right? Working downtown and having to bring my laptop to work everyday has been not so fun. Making it funner would be to have my beat up sporty/messenger style bag magically turn into a fashionable accessory. My bag would be professional yet edgy, leather trim with a fun interior fabric. The perfect cross between form and function while making a fashion statement. (And of course, you can't tell that's what I use to lug my laptop!)

If I were to design a laptop bag it would look chic and be functioning. I would want it to look great at the office and cool to bring to meetings outside of the office. I would make the outside a deep green croc, with gold hardware so that it stands out. I would make it more purse like, with a fold over clasp, rather than a zipper that could get stuck and irksome. On the inside, I would make it a satiny cream and flower pattern so that everytime you had to reach into a compartment for something ( did i mention a pocket for keys, cellphones, a zipper for lose stuff) it would feel sumptuous and not scratchy. There would be a built in laptop sleeve, toward the back of the bag so that it will lay flat against you and not away. And the strap itself would be thick so that it could be comfy and not dig into your arm

Leather outside, messanger style like something from la coste - teflon inside with plenty of flex. and an optional pocket for some sort of security device that would beep if the bag got too far away from me.

I would make a black leopard vegan type leather body, straps and silver buckles which would put it together perfectly. There would be silky faded leopard print on the pockets and accenting the straps. There would be a large soft Leopard print pocket inside where The laptop goes to keep it seperate from the accessories and scratch free. Something simple but put together well and very durable with just a splash of rocker chick style and enough space to add more than just your laptop!

It would be cherry red, nylon with a leather bottom. There would be two different ways to hold it -- long hands to go over the shoulder tote style, and the ability to add a long strap to wear around the body. The inside would be a wild print - stripey candy, or zebra, and will have soft compartments for all of my computer components. I'm pretty much drooling now.

Definitely NOT black ... why? Because everything I own is black and MOST Lap Top bags are black. Awhile back, I was at the airport checking in for my flight at the check in counter. I placed my lap top bag & luggage down during the check in process. It was crazy busy and choatic. To make a devastating and long story short - someone swiped my black lap top bag and it was IMPOSSIBLE to try to find it because it was black! EVERYONE (almost) had a black lap top bag. I believe if my lap top bag was Orange or Multi-Colored or even patterened (not black), no one would have thought of even touching the lap top bag bc it would be too easily recognizeable! Anyone agree? Happy Halloween!

I have ALWAYS wanted to design laptop bags! It is something that they don't have a huge varity of! I would design a bag in black with white wide to thin to wide stripes. I would also have an attachable shoulder strap also a briefcase handle. I would have a pocket infront for papers, jump drives etc., and a pocket just for your cellphone, and a pocket just for your cord to fit. If I could make a whole line I would add some FUN Fabrics. Amy Butler fabric would be great! I would want to have the option to add the wheels to it and pull handle for traveling. Also I want to make a larger bag also that has wheels to make it easy to travel. So I would make 4-5 different styles of bags with tons of different fabric options!! Thank You! Trista
