Designer Exclusive: Project Runway Castoff Jerry Tam's Fabulous FORM Line

He may have been the first to get the boot, but who needs Project Runway when you already have a fiercely fabulous label of your own? Jerry Tam is the visionary founder of FORM- a modern luxury womenswear label now entering into its 10th season. Following his Runway exit, I met up with Jerry at the FORM Showroom to learn more- and was absolutely awe-struck by the amazing pieces, all crafted with the utmost attention to detail, shape, and structure for couture-like styles with everyday wearability.

Stylehive: How would you describe your line?

Jerry Tam: Form is a distinctive approach to womens€™ fashion, taking it beyond functionality into the realm of modern luxury; fusing inspired sensibilities with considered design. This unique collaboration has lead to the creation of a forward-thinking, fresh fashion house whose hallmark is exquisite design and exceptional tailoring. The industry looks to Form as a purveyor of intricately crafted modern garments, while women seeking unparalleled style find Form clean, wearable, but remarkably progressive.

JT: Environment that surrounds us and architecture that€™s placed within it.

Stylehive: Who is the 'FORM' Girl?
JT: The FORM girl is a young woman with a busy life and a fulfilling career. Constantly moving, changing, seeking new things, she is able to go from a meeting with an art handler to lunch in SoHO, then hop uptown to Carlyle Hotel for drinks after work. The clothes in her wardrobe should have this flexibility as well.She prides quality and luxury over trendiness and group-think, as such, she€™ll invest in a few, versatile timeless pieces. Her wardrobe is filled with basics and great accessories.

The FORM woman has her taste and her own style. She€™s not following trends or picking up cues from other people or magazines. She wants to look great in any situation with minimal effort. She has realized the virtue of effortless quality and style.

Stylehive: Is there a designer whose career you'd like to emulate? If so, who and why?
JT: Former design great €“ Helmut Lang. His aesthetic, design ability and color stories for all his former seasonal collections truly befitted my personal style and the way I like to view others.
