Shockingly bright hues of yellow have dominated this season€“ on the runway, in fashion magazines and in saves here on Stylehive. We just can't seem to get enough of this basic, cheerful color, and it's even shown up in one of the most intimidating places for it to be worn... on the eyes.
Most women have never worn yellow eyeshadow and they possibly never will. Yellow is the color of daffodils, buttercups, primroses, canaries and butterflies. It also has the distinction of being the color of taxi cabs, school buses, raincoats, bumble bees and "danger" signs. For those of you willing to venture into bolder, slightly more treacherous territory... a sunny outlook on the eyes can brighten your baby blues, give you a gilded glow or just make a distinct statement!Yellow eyeshadow on the runway this season was primarily high-impact and theatrical, but you can take it down a few notches and make it wearable. I always admire makeup that "colors outside of the lines", but for daily wear, you can easily make yellow a real eye-opener that doesn't raise eyebrows. Or frighten your friends."Yellow" doesn't have to be the straight-up crayon variety. You can opt for it soft and creamy, golden and metallic or deep and almost khaki. You can also use a bright yellow and blend it with neutrals when you apply it, softening and diluting the color to make it suitable for you. Use a tiny chiseled brush to blend, and leave a small "pop" of saturated color near the inside corner of your eye, blending out into your neutral shade, such as a mid-tone brown or grey. You'll enliven your eyes, especially if they're blue or grey!Speaking of blue... if you have blue eyes, yellow eyeshadow is your new partner in crime. Yellow is a complementary color of blue and these two colors vibrate when next to one other. The result? Your blue eyes will look dazzling. Blue-eyed models wearing yellow eyeshadows on the NYFW runways at Benjamin Cho, Behnaz Sarafpour, and Derek Lam wowed audiences with their gazes... now it's your turn. The proverbial notion "Less is More" definitely applies to the use of yellow makeup in your everyday routine. Just a 'dab will do while still leaving plenty of room for all of the glorious yellow sunglasses, shoes, bags, belts, beads and baubles that you can dream of!Will you dare to try yellow eyeshadow?
