If you have not yet fallen for the dazzling array of vivid clothing, shoes, bags, belts and sunglasses that are deleriously prevalent this season, the color purple may be what final drags you in. Not the movie, girls... the color! In all of it's seductive mysteriousness, moodiness and glamorous flair. There is a perfect purple for each and every one of you, and this purple belongs however you dare to apply it€“ whether in a dreamy wash of color, a romantic smoky smudge, or a bold streak€“ on your eyelids.
Shades of purple, violet and aubergine reigned supreme on the runways at Thakoon, Behnaz Sarafpour, Bottega Veneta, Christian LaCroix, and Valentino- the most dramatic look (and one of my favorites) being the stark ultraviolet halos worn by blue-eyed model Siri Tollerød, at Behnaz Sarafpour. Sephora.com features a similar look as part of their homage to brightly colored makeup this season. According to Jerrod Blandino, celebrity makeup artist and creator of Too Faced Cosmetics, "Purple shadows make blue eyes look bluer, green eyes look more brilliant, and brown eyes look lighter. This season's purples sizzle with iridescent pigments that add a sexy and futuristic metallic edge."I've even spotted lovely purple peepers on celebs Rihanna, Katie Holmes and Ellen Page. All looking pretty in purple, I might add.Sometimes, you just instinctively know when a color looks good on you. Celebrity makeup artist Craig Beaglehole offers the following advice on choosing the perfect eyeshadow colors: "You know you have the right color when your eyes look brighter, warmer and sexier." Easy enough. You'll also know pretty quickly if you have the wrong shade on, because you may look like you didn't sleep a wink. If this happens, you might need a "different" purple, so don't fret! Not all purples are created alike! There are warm purples and cool purples. Vivid purples and pastel purples. And lastly, there are mauves. Which purple you choose can make a world of difference. Warm purples are those which have a pink or magenta cast (think amethyst or orchid) while cool purples have a strong bluish undertone (think lilac or indigo). If you can't figure out if your purple is a warm or cool purple, it is also possible that it is a perfectly neutral and balanced purple... in which case, this is a quintessential shade which would look beautiful on all eye colors and skin tones .The most wearable purples are mauves, which are warm purples with grey and brown tones added, to create a heathery, muted color which is not only extremely flattering and wearable, but which many makeup artists actually consider to be a neutral tone! When in doubt, drop the brown and reach for mauve! There's no rules for color this season. Other than that you enjoy it! Be a shy violet and try a soft shimmering pastel purple. Put down that black eyeliner and pick up a sexy, smoky deep plum instead. Black mascara? I dare you to try one of this season's brightly hued violet mascaras. There are as many options for your eyelids as there are variations on the color purple... be they shimmering, matte, creamy or flat-out glittering, I assure you that you won't get bored!Up next: Blue!
