LA Fashion Week: Nonja McKenzie's Flirty-Femme Spring Collection

Local LA stylist turned designer Nonja McKenzie shined at Mercedes-Benz LA Fashion Week with her shimmering Spring '09 collection of beaded shifts, satin tops, and silk jumpsuits. Lame and chiffon butterfly-sleeve tops fluttered down the runway, followed by an array of sixties and seventies inspired dresses in soft fabrics and buttery colors. A plethora of flattering wrap dresses with flirtatious ties swinging to and fro brought a certain girlish charm to the collection, while leopard print and silk halter jumpsuits added the necessary sex appeal. Nonja revamped long-sleeved minidresses and body-conscious asymmetrical dresses with ruching down the sides of sleeves and skirts, but her beadwork stole the show with beaded shifts, billowing tops, and my personal favorite--a black and silver beaded eyelash minidress! Check out our favorite looks from Nonja McKenzie's Spring 2009 Collection in the slideshow!

LA Fashion Week: Crispin & Basilio's Dreamy Spring Collection

Crispin & Basilio€™s Spring 2009 Collection walked out of a cloud and onto a runway. The heavenly designs, in creme and taupes, silks and satins, waltzed and sauntered down the runway. Sheer, draping fabrics, in day and evening looks, weren€™t just the stuff of imagination: these fashions are real and accessible to daily wear. One of our favorite day looks was a simple taupe cardigan over a lightly-sequined off-white skirt. The effect was glamour without the fuss. The charming sophistication of the entire line is a clear signal that Crispin & Basilio is here to stay with easy elegance. Check out our SLIDESHOW for our favorite looks from Crispin & Basilio at Mercedes Benz LA Fashion Week!

Stylehive TV: Ashley Paige Swimsuits Are For Everyone! Except One Certain Star...

When a pre-bump Jessica Alba, a post-twins JLo, and a no-bump Mena Suvari need the perfect bikini to wear out on the paparazzi-infested beaches of the world, they often look no further than their latest Ashley Paige one or two piece. But there's one celebrity who Ms. Paige never expects to don her comfy/sexy swimwear. (Think: "The one who wears cone bras.") At least that's what Ms. Paige told me during our wide-ranging - and educational (for a guy) - interview before her Fall 2008 swimsuit show at L.A. Fashion Week. Check out the rest of my interview and her sexy new line for Spring inspirations.

StylehiveTV: Amy Smart and Davis Factor Talk Eco Fashion!

The highlight of LA Fashion Week for me was talking to the event host, Smashbox Studios owner Davis Factor, about his company's green initiative, and seeing the amazing lineup of green designers Factor and the gang put together for the week's big green runway show. Check out our latest Stylehive TV video, where I talk to Factor and actress Amy Smart about the importance of fashion going green, and see the latest green designs taking over Hollywood.

Stylehive TV: Gen Art's New Garde Show 50% Fashion, 50% Art

Jennifer Egan is Gen Art's Los Angeles uber talent scout. She put together the indie design powerhouse's New Garde show last month, featuring three amazingly talented, up-and-coming designers: Jess Kamm, JMary, and Les Sang Des Betes' Trang Chau. Eschewing the runway in favor of three still life tableaux Jen termed "dynamic installations," the event was equal parts fashion show, and, given the designers' avant garde leanings, performance art opening. Click WATCH VIDEO for the funky scene, and find out why Jen picked these three designers over everyone else in LA!

Stylehive TV: Tarina Tarantino Getting a Pink-Haired Barbie Twin!

Tarina Tarantino is on a serious roll. Every celebrity's favorite Gothy accessories girl just opened new boutiques in Milan and New York City, and now she's about to take over the Barbie aisle of your local Toys R Us! We caught up with Tarina at the Jared Gold runway show in Los Angeles and got the scoop on her plans for style world domination, which also includes a big move to a big new creative HQ out in La La land. Click WATCH VIDEO for my front row interview with the TT-ster!

Stylehive TV: Sweet P Is Getting Her Own Show! (But Will Kit Be Invited?)

I was in Los Angeles for the Jared Gold fashion show when who should I bump into (okay I stalked them) but Sweet P and Kit of Project Runway fame. A year ago, they were slogging through their anonymous lives like the rest of us, but now they're front row on the runways, hamming it up with pushy interviewers, and Sweet P told me she's even getting her own show! Watch my exclusive interview for sexy details on what will undoubtedly be Bravo's next big fashion reality megahit. (I'm thinking bigger than Workout, but maybe not quite Top Chef. That Padma's hard to turn off.)

StylehiveTV: Falguni & Shane Peacock Bring Bollywood to Hollywood

In case you haven't heard, bright colors are clubbing grays and blacks and browns over the head this year and retaking their rightful spots on top of the fashion food chain. Nowhere is that more apparent than in Indian designers Falguni & Shane Peacock's Fall 2008 line, which they debuted in the U.S. for the first time at L.A. Fashion Week. I talked with the husband and wife team before their historic show about their use of color, and why their line, synonymous with Bali movie starlets, may soon be draped over the bodies of their American cousins. Click WATCH VIDEO for our backstage chat.

Stylehive TV: Jonathan Antin Goes Nuts at Pussycat Dolls Show!

Hair care megadude Jonathan Antin has two speeds - caffeine and guarine. The creator of the Jonathan product line, star of Blowout, and little brother of Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin, was his trademark maniacally intense self backstage at the Dolls' runway show for L.A. Fashion Week. Antin took me through some of the models' styles for the show, then turned the tables and interviewed me on his creations! Watch as I struggle to parry his witty jabs. (If 60 Minutes has an opening, Antin should be on their short list.)

Stylehive TV: Juliette Lewis Refuses to "Tumble and Cavort" in Whitley Kros!

I did a bunch of celebrity and designer interviews at L.A. Fashion Week last week, including two at the Whitley Kros show on Day One. I already ran the Danny Masterson and Giovanni Ribisi interview and wanted to put a little breathing room between them and my other fave chat from that night, Juliette Lewis. Juliette told me she loved Whitley Kros (designed by two of her best buds Marissa Ribisi and Sophia Banks), because "its casual and elegant at the same time," but couldn't see wearing them with her band The Licks. "On stage I need something a little more rough around the edges so I can tumble and ... cavort," she explained. Watch the video to see us cavort through the rest of our red carpet interview now!
