Stylehive TV: Mena Suvari on Spring Trends and Shaving Her Head!

L.A. Fashion Week was a procession of pretty people and interesting conversations, but if I had to pick THE highlight of the week, it was probably chatting with pretty interesting Mena Suvari in Smashbox Studios€™ VIP room. I just happened to be in there filming segment about the VIP room itself when Mena glided in to hang out before the Jenny Han show. (All of the American Express cardholders got to hang back there all week with the designers and celebs, so one flash of my "Member Since 1997," and I was in.) What followed was a wide-ranging conversation on accessories, Spring colors, and head shapes. Yes, head shapes.

L.A. Fashion Week Is Over? Awww, Man!

Stylehive teamed up with an amazing camera and production crew from ABC/SOAPNet to cover a crazy exciting L.A. Fashion Week. Level-headed producer and budding paparazzo Kyle, 8'11'' camera dude with a heart of gold Jeff, in-house sommelier and associate producer Ricardo, runway fashion video aficionado Andrew, and irrepressible sound engineer Michael made sure me and Patricia were always in the right place at the right time. (And every interesting or intelligent comment we made on camera, they fed us.) We'll keep running new video coverage from the event for the next couple weeks, so stay tuned. Thanks guys! It takes a team to cover fashion, because there's no "I" in style. Even though, phonetically, it kind of sounds like there is.

L.A. Runway Report: Samora€™s Knits Heat Up the Runway

The sun may have been blazing hot outside L.A. Fashion Week, but it was Samora€™s collection that really had everybody hot under the collar. The line featured a mix of fantastic fall pieces with the type of clever, creative design that felt as if we were sitting front row in New York and smack in the center of winter. Cool, sophisticated pieces pulled in the same ornate details designers have been showing all week, including interesting plays on fabric and unique trimmings. Funnel neck coats, tweeds and plaids were prevalent, shown in fun cuts and new shapes, but it was the knitwear that turned the most heads. Lightweight, delicate blends worked into a variety of gorgeous pieces. So cozy! Bring on the chilly season!

Colors: Blue, purple, ivory, black.
Patterns: Plaid, plaid and more plaid!

Stylehive TV: Nicky Hilton Pairs Equestrian With S&M. Ouch!

Some couplings just sound wrong. Peanut butter and turkey. Sonny and Cher. Horses and bondage. But the latter pair are, indeed, the inspiration behind Nicky Hilton's Fall 2008 Nicholai line! And, folks, I am here to tell you, as Sonny is my witness, Nicky Hilton makes peanut butter and turkey work. Nicky's equestrian S&M themed show was buttoned down but sexy, safe but adventurous, cool yet hot. I spent some time with her backstage in the minutes before the models strutted her stuff down the catwalk. Find out when she knew she was going to be a designer, and how big sister Paris helped - by pouting...

L.A. Runway Report: Veronika Jeanvie Goes Over the Rainbow

While a lot of designers at the various Fashion Week events keep to the same color trends, there are always those black sheep (no pun intended) who take their collections another direction to give a pleasant surprise to all. Veronika Jeanvie did just that, forgoing the commonly seen tones for a line that was literally a rainbow of them all. Green, blue, pink, purple, black, white, yellow, silver and gold, all in a beautiful, breathless stream of gorgeous dresses that included interesting trim, creative embellishments, beading and more. Hem lengths, cuts and styles were just as varied. One minute, it was something long and lean, the next, short and perfect for the party girl. Whew! Holiday, look out!

Stylehive TV: Jenna Jameson Unveils Sexy New PETA Campaign

1940s pin-up girl Betty Page just got a 2008 makeover, courtesy of Jenna Jameson and PETA. The former porn star and the anti-animal cruelty lobby have teamed up for a steamy new campaign called "Pleather Yourself," (get it?!) which urges fashion slaves to give up their leather addiction in favor of its man-made substitute! Jenna assumes Betty Page's iconic pose for the new PETA ads, dressed only in a pleather bikini. So is a pleather clothing line in the offing for Ms. Jameson? Find out in my fun L.A. Fashion Week interview with the charming, eco-conscious star.

L.A. Runway Report: Falguni & Shane Peacock Bring Indian Colors and Patterns to L.A.

When you go to a runway fashion show, you secretly hope you€™re going to be knocked off your feet by some kind of incredible presentation, and believe me, Falguni & Shane Peacock€™s first U.S. showing didn€™t disappoint. The collection rolled out amidst an early afternoon crowd on a sunny, Southern California day and it couldn€™t have been a better backdrop for the pretty, floaty dresses the designers showed, which combined bold, colorful prints and creative elements. Peacock feathers, gemstones and play on fabric were the key components, blended with an array of beautiful designs that ranged from mini dresses to long styles. Breathless! Photo: MBFW.

L.A. Runway Report: Whitley Kros Line Goes Great With Beck Soundtrack

It's not every designer who will trust her husband to program the music for her biggest fashion show ever. But when you are Marissa Ribisi, half of the design team (with partner Sophia Coloma) behind the fun, flirty Whitley Kros label, and your husband happens to be Beck, the trust is warranted. The crowd at the packed L.A. Fashion Week show was shimmying in their seats for one colorful WK ensemble after another. But the highlight had to be Kirstie Alley's impossibly cute little 13-year old daughter Lillie in what Kirstie told me before the show was her first runway sashay! Proud papa Parker Stevenson must have taken 300 pics of his kid's fashion debut. That serene family scene exemplified the cute, innocent, yet confident line.

Stylehive TV: Danny and Giovanni Hit L.A. Fashion Week for Whitley Kros

I'm running around L.A. Fashion Week with a crack ABC/SOAPNet camera crew all week interviewing celebrities, designers, and random fashionistas as they hit the fall shows at Smashbox Studios. One of my favorite interviews so far was with Danny Masterson and Giovanni Ribisi at the Whitley Kros show. Giovanni's sister Marissa is half of the design team behind the line, and her posse was out in full. But as you'll find out in my exclusive interview, Giovanni and Danny think they deserve, well, all of the credit for her line, and are looking forward to rearranging their acting schedules to focus like lasers on their own fashionisto dreams. (And click back in a couple of hours for a hot slideshow of the Whitley Kros runway show.)

HiveSlides: L.A. Fashion Week €“ Julia Clancey

There€™s nothing like a little fashion angst in a designer€™s collection because after all, fashion is art and art is always passionate. That was the story at Julia Clancey€™s showing on Sunday after a tussle with customs, but if there€™s anything passion does is bring it ten-fold regardless. Her fall line centers around making a statement all on its own, working classic red, black and white and giving everything a sophisticated, putting-on-the-Ritz vibe. Dresses took the center stage and appeared at all lengths with dynamic, contrasting details like big bows and unexpected beading. Like a true fashion patriot, Clancey threw in bright gold and pretty purple to once again mix things up again. Photo: MBFW.
