Britain is really in bloom at the moment, maybe it's the excitement about the next Olympics €“ maybe it's just the darn amount of rain. Regardless, while I was in England recently, I came across some marvelous new designers.
With a heavy dose of London pride, the OXO tower was one of my favorite places to see emerging designers. Here the designers have a combination of store and studio €“ so while it was exciting to see the new work, it was even more exciting to chat to a couple of the designers. One of my favorites was W2, and not just because they gave me one of their Pantone Mugs which I have used everyday since. If you want something a little more quirky, raw or unfinished you could head over to Spitalfields Market. Amid the cheap imports and junky stalls there were some design gems. One designer had the most delicious little illustrated notepads €“ but no business card, no website €“ I wasn't even sure that I would be allowed to buy anything. On the Friday I visited, the focus was on fashion €“ which in this context meant quite a few stalls selling graphic tees. Yes, I know they are everywhere, but I couldn't resist getting a couple for the kids. One thing is obvious €“ I didn't even scratch the surface while I was there €“ so without further ado here's a little look at some independent British design. And, yes, all the pricing is in £ not $ - how quaint! Check out my SLIDESHOW now.
