The other day while browsing through the men's shoe department at Bloomingdale's, DSW and the ultimate shopping mecca, Barneys New York, I became fascinated with one particular item: black lace up boots. My sartorial senses honed in on the bad ass aesthetic that mostly works with just with a pair of jeans and T-shirt. For a more ambitious look, I imagined myself in an uber-modern John Varvatos slim suit with a silhouette-friendly pair of lace ups. I even tried on a pair of JV lace ups and I immediately fell in love. I walked around Barneys to give them a test drive, strutting around like a rock n' roll runway model. I felt like the coolest guy in the world €“ but then the sales associate chastised me. Even though it was written in the stars for me to be the owner of those $600 JV boots, I reluctantly gave the wood soled boots back to the glaring associate. As soon as I got home, I printed out a picture of the boots and put them on my vision board to satisfy the universe's desire for them to be in my closet. Until then, I am going to call my dad and have him send me his old Air Force combat boots so that I can relieve my boot craving. But if you don't have a direct connection to the armed forces, here are some combat boots for you to make you look chic when you romp around the city.
