8 Preppy Finds to Give Your Home Clean-Cut Glamour!

Preppy is getting a fresh, modern spin these days with 50s-chic home decor in bright colors and bold patterns. The quintessentially preppy pink-and-green color combo is getting a run for its money with preppy pieces in blue, red, and- my personal fave- chocolate brown. To incorporate the preppy trend into your home, look for pieces in argyle, plaid, and sharp graphic patterns. Even better, look for patterned pieces that can be monogrammed to really put your, ahem, personal stamp on the season's squeaky clean and oh-so-glam looks. For a peek at 8 fab preppy home accessories, check out my slideshow!

Cool Stuff Made of Reclaimed Wood!

From furniture to home accessories to jewelry, artisans and even mainstream companies are now making objects from one of the greenest materials available: reclaimed wood. Reclaimed wood can come from a variety of sources--dilapidated homes, barn beams, and rail road tracks, to name a few--and its use keeps manufacturers from further depleting our world's forests. What's so great about that? Deforestation is one cause of global warming, not to mention all of the wildlife, ecosystems, and biodiversity that are harmed by clearing our forests. So, do the world a favor and shop for products made out of reclaimed, recycled, or sustainably harvested wood! Need some ideas? Check out my slideshow of cool products made with reclaimed wood!

Home Style: Give Your Pad That 60s, Mad-Men Look!

If you're as obsessed with Mad Men as I am you've probably, like me, taken to wearing full skirts with ladylike blouses lately and started fantasizing about shag rugs and in-office bars (and two-martini lunches). If you're really obsessed - and who could blame you, those sets are fabulous- you might even be thinking about redoing your pad in Mad Men's Mid-Century Modern style. The Mid-Century look was all about clean lines and unpretentious functionality - add in some era-appropriate accessories like a corded rotary phone, a Olivetti manual typewriter, and a flowery apron hanging in the kitchen, and you'll be well on your way to living la vida Mad Men! Want to create a 60s makeover on a budget? Check out my slideshow of Urban Outfitters finds that look as though they were whisked straight from the set of Mad Men!

Home Style: 8 Home Accessories in Fiery Fall Colors

Whether named persimmon, ruby, tomato, burnt umber, or any other of the countless fiery color shades, good old red and orange are popping up all over the interior design world. Maybe it's in anticipation of the gorgeous shades of changing fall leaves or maybe it's just because a sliver of bold color in an otherwise neutral room has enthralled home stylists for decades, but the fact is you can't open a home decor magazine these days without getting an eyeful of serious red and orange drama. Home accessory trends like this one are easy to bring home...a chic orange tray on a coffee table, a dramatic red pillow on a couch, or even a vase full of orange poppies will do the trick! For 8 fab and fiery home accessory finds, check out my slideshow!

Home Style: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, What's the Coolest Mirror of All?

So, mirror, mirror, here's a question for ya: Who has the fairest apartment in the land? If you've got a mirror on your wall, the answer might just be you! It's no secret that mirrors magically make rooms look bigger, more polished, and when placed strategically to catch light from a window, brighter. With all the unique mirrors out there, there's no reason to go the plain Jane route: look for mirrors that will not only enlarge your space but will add an interesting design element as well. From mirrors adorned with cheeky graphics to nature-inspired mirrors to sleek mirrors perfect for minimalist spaces, there's a mirror to fit every aesthetic in my SLIDESHOW!

Home Style: Hidden Storage Helps You De-Clutter With Style

Clutter. Ugh. The word itself is enough to make me break out in a cold sweat. Nothing could be less stylish than stacks of stuff collecting dust all over your home sweet home -- unless, of course, you've managed to make all of your piles of books and shoes and magazines look like the intentional, boho-chic product of your eclectic, fabulous, too-busy-to-clean self. In which case, you're probably Mary-Kate Olsen and kudos to you for being not only stylishly messy but also crazy rich. For the rest of us, there's a wealth of hidden storage pieces out there perfectly suited to whisking our clutter out of eyesight. For six stylish de-cluttering options, check out my slideshow.

Vacay Style: Hit the Beach One More Time Before Fall Gets Here!

I don't know about you, but I'm not ready for summer to end. And, frankly, with September being the best beach month of the year, I see no reason to start feeling like Fall's just around the corner. (Fall, I'll welcome you with open arms when it's time to start my 30-Days-Till-Thanksgiving-Mashed-Potatoes Countdown - until then, back off.) So in the spirit of late Summer vacations and wringing every moment of sun and warmth out of my favorite season, I scoured the Web for the best beaches in the US. Turns out, some well-traveled folks have very strong opinions on the subject! Travel and Leisure, for example, loves Cape Cod, Massachusetts for its prime swimming and considers Pfeffer State Beach in Big Sur, California an excellent nature escape. The folks over at Daily Candy love Cape May, New Jersey and Santa Cruz, California for their old school beach town vibe. And Gorp says you'll see the best sunset at Polihale, Hawaii. My latest obsession? Taking the perilous, cliff-side road from San Francisco to gorgeous Stinson Beach...a 3.5-mile dog-friendly stretch of khaki sand with quintessential California coastline views. Summer's not over yet, baby!

Need a reason to throw a fabulous outdoor party? Of course you don't! But just in case, here's a little inspiration to get you in the party mood: 1. It's August! The warm, light-soaked evenings are numbered so get your al fresco party on while you still can! 2. End of summer sales mean you can find great outdoor entertaining items for a fraction of what they cost back in June. Load up on unbreakable margarita glasses and boldly patterned appetizer plates, and don't forget to include at least one outdoor game to get the party started. My fave? Lawn bowling! For all my outdoor entertaining picks, check out my slideshow!

Summer Style: 6 Cool Bikes for Classic Cruising

Few things feel as perfectly summery as cruising around on a bike, breeze blowing through your hair and sun warming your shoulders. The good news? You don't need to be at the beach to start pushing those pedals. Hipsters everywhere have made it so the classic fixed-gear beach cruiser is as likely to be seen in cities as it is on the boardwalks along the coast. And all those bikes mean good things for the environment...not to mention your thighs and your wallet! After plunking down the initial money for a bike, you won't need to worry about filling up at the gas station or digging up change for public transportation. For classic beach cruisers with a whole lot of style, check out my SLIDESHOW!
