The holidays are upon us, and while I seem to be spending most of my time squeezing women into shapewear so they'll look good in their holiday party dresses, I thought it might be fun to look at the lighter side of holiday lingerie. When it comes to lingerie, there's often a choice between the looks of a piece and its comfort. Fabrics like cotton and bamboo feel great on the skin, but many times lack the sexy look of items made from synthetic fabrics. One the other hand, synthetics can often feel scratchy and uncomfortable. One exception to this general idea is silk. It's a natural fiber that is both soft to the touch and great looking. When thinking of fashion and intimate apparel, it's easy to get lost in a sea of sheer mesh, floral embroidery and frilly lace. Those of you who regularly read my biweekly posts here at Stylehive know that I'm a huge fan of beautiful, elegant and luxurious lingerie. So, I guess it's a bit of a confession when I say that I don't always wear silk and lace. I believe in matching my underwear with my mood so when I'm just hanging out in my apartment, it's all about casual, fun prints. Spend Your Downtime In Loungewear With An Asian Flair

When I was quite young, my older brother was a huge fan of "The Karate Kid." With only one TV in the house designated for "kid use" and being the younger sibling of the pair, I ended up spending much of my formative years watching parts 1 and 2 of this classic 1980's saga. At some point, I fell in love with the lovely traditional garments the women wore throughout the movie sequel. I thought the styles were so elegant and pretty that this red-headed Irish girl was even a geisha for Halloween one year. So, I'm pretty jazzed that some of these prints have made their way into modern sleepwear and loungewear. Some styles border on sexy, but for the most part these modern takes on traditional Asian robes are just plain beautiful. Check out my SLIDESHOW for a look!

Not So Boyish Boyshorts!

When women come to me looking for something to wear under their lower slung pants, I often suggest a boy short panty. They often feature a low rise and the cut is such that it usually prevents dreaded visible panty lines when paired with something tight. Many of these women wince, however, at the prospect of wearing something that might resemble their son's or little brother's underpants. While I'm certainly a fan of "sportier" boy shorts that loosely resemble men's underwear, there is a time and a place for everything. These more boyish boy shorts are great for casual wear under low rise jeans. For a less casual and more feminine lingerie look, there are plenty of boy short panties available. Often referred to as "French Knickers," these exquisitely feminine panties look nothing like your little brother's tightie-whities. Corsets began as tools to shape a woman's body, permanently in many cases. They were hard, ugly, unbending and never meant to be seen €“ certainly not by men. While the modern corset is often used for the purpose of shaping, the effects are less permanent and the garment itself is usually meant to be viewed €“ often in the bedroom, but recent trends have corset like garments mixing with jeans and skirts as clubwear or even casualwear. A babydoll is typically defined as a short (usually very sexy) nightgown. More often than traditional sleepwear, babydolls are adorned with lace, ruffles, bows and ribbons. And quite frequently they are made from sheer fabric. While babydolls are classified as "sleepwear" by most lingerie retailers and are certainly meant to be worn to bed, they're not really meant to be slept in. Sheer Elegance: 5 Artistic Sheer Bras

I've fallen in love with a lot of new (and some not so new) bras that are composed primarily of sheer fabrics and embroidered with all kinds of elegant patterns. When the customers in the fitting room ring that doorbell and ask me to deliver them a specific bra, I find myself adding a few of these lovely selections to the group. They're not always the most practical bras. Often the embroidery will show through tight fitting tops. I think the best way to describe them is simply "classy". The sheer fabrics are sexy no doubt, but the intricate embroidery adds so much elegance that the eye cannot help but be drawn to the artistry of the garment over what lies beneath. I own at least one of each of the beauties in the slide show and they all give me that extra boost of sexy confidence throughout the day.
