Style Icon: Natalie Portman Blends Talent With Taste

Natalie Portman is about as intriguing as a person can be. With unquestionable talent, a Harvard degree in psychology, a poise and sense of self stronger than most, she is a rare thing to find in the movie industry. With 15 years of experience, she's taking her career by the reins, creating her own production company, handsomecharlie (named after her late dog, Charlie), and trying her hand at writing and directing her first feature film. Politically and socially active, Natalie is raising awareness toward the causes that are closest to her heart like animal rights and environmentalism, most recently by designing her own line of super chic vegan footwear for Te Casan.

Style Icons: The Pirelli Calendar Girls

The Italians have always been the masters of food and fashion. And while gelato, authentic Italian pizza, and gourmet cheese are all delicious, the fashion is what's truly exquisite! There is nothing more inspiring as the eye-candy that is the Pirelli Calendar! It's where high fashion, glamor, and the biggest models of each era come together to celebrate beauty, the female form, and iconic photography. This year's calendar was shot by famed photog Patrick Demarchelier in Shanghai, dressing models Gemma Ward, Agyness Dyen and Coco Rocha, to name a few, as geisha girls, ala Christian Dior.

Style Icon: Natasha Khan From Bat for Lashes

If there is one person whose closet (let's be honest, whose whole life) I'd like to raid, it would be Natasha Khan. Singer, songwriter, multi- instrumentalist, visual artist, and now my personal fashion muse, is there anything this British beauty can't do? Combining unusual instruments (like the harpsichord), a militaristic sound, a vintage vibe, and mystical indie rock, her songs are hauntingly beautiful. She is a master storyteller, taking us on trips through animal kingdoms and magical dream sequences. Her covetable style incorporates the whimsy of her music with a 70s flair, lots of layering, and is always topped off with a retro style headband. Check out my slideshow of some of Natasha's favorite designers mixed in with my faves she'd look great in, then watch her amazing video.

Sounds like: Joanna Newsom, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Bjork
Top Songs to Download: "Priscilla", "What's a Girl To Do", and "Horse and I"

Styling Fashion Muse Jennifer Connelly

Jennifer Connelly's style is like a fine wine. She has always been classically beautiful, but age has descended upon her gracefully, refining her Oscar-worthy talent as well as her stunning sense of style. As with my other favorite muses, Jennifer is not afraid to take fashion chances, winding up on the best dressed list almost as if by accident. I am not the only one that finds her intriguing, as she is the new face of Balenciaga, looking fierce in animal prints, and exotic, sculptural silhouettes. Nicolas Ghesquière has certainly taken notice of her muse-worthy status which has has attempted to capture in his ad campaigns. With her famous dark eyebrows, pale complexion, and model-esque physique, how could she not inspire?

Let's Style Pop Star Kate Nash, Shall We?

British pop icon slash fashion newbie, Kate Nash is crossing the Atlantic with her infectious lyrics and upbeat sound. There's something lovable about her personality that comes out through her music- and also something quite jarring in her self reflection, detailing the breakdown of a relationship with lyrics like "My fingertips are holding onto the cracks in our foundations, and I know that I should let go..." and "Can't take back those hours but I won't regret 'cause you can grow flowers from where dirt used to be..."

Style Icon: M.I.A.'s Aerobic Instructor Chic

After witnessing major political unrest when visiting Sri Lanka, M.I.A.'s mother locked her in a room for a week. Literally. She said, "the only things in the room were a shelf with every Hindu god you could think of -- all 184 of them -- a locked cabinet and a sewing machine. By day three, I started taking down the curtains and making outfits. There was nothing else to do!" And that is how a style star is born.

Prediction Time! The 10 Hot New Trends of 2008

The time has come to do triage on your wardrobe. Okay, for me, that time came and went years ago, but this year I'm serious! I'm deciding what to keep, what can be salvaged with a little DIY help, and what needs to be put to rest for good. This is what I've come up with so far.

Classics to keep: Oxford shoes, trench coat, little black dress, pencil skirt
DIY: Those old boring trousers, I'm cutting them at the knee, and hemming them. Throw some sheer black tights under them, toss on those oxfords and tada: I've got a look Annie Hall would be proud of!
Never to be seen again: track suits, anything crushed velvet, and capri pants. Bye guys!

Now that my closet's cleaned out, I can shop guilt-free for all the hottest trends of 2008! Yippee do! Check out my list of what's new for 2008, so you can start off the new year fully fashion prepared, too. I will arm you with the best of what's coming, so you won't get caught in a "what not to wear" situation ever again.

Bye Bye Microprints! (And 9 More Trends We're Happy to Leave in 2007)

Just between you and me, there are several things I'm leaving behind in 2007. First of, I'll be shedding that extra five pounds thanks to my mom's awesome eggnog bread and irresistible pumpkin pies (New Year's resolution #1: gym membership). And along with the weight, there are several hot fashion trends of 2007 turned fashion faux pas of 2008 that should be dumped on the roadside as well. Take my Top 10 list of fashion don'ts to heart in 2008, and you'll be sure to splash into the new year at the top of your fashion game.

Designer to Watch: Dorothy Lee's Clean Lines and Simple Shapes Have Classic Feel

Give me deconstructed layers with feminine tailoring, in colors reminiscent of a coming-of-age Sofia Coppola film, and I am in heaven! You'll be sitting - or standing, or reclining - pretty in just about anything from Dorothy Lee. I would expect nothing less than greatness from her after studying at Parsons and Central St. Martins and interning for Chanel and Peter Som. Dorothy Lee presents a line of contradictions, with their girly yet ladylike silhouettes, where clean lines and simple shapes meet intricate detailing. Her relaxed, whimsical creations are the epitome of effortless chic, they have a throw-it-on-and-go quality that makes them this seasons wardrobe staple. Check out my slideshow for 10 of her prettiest looks.
