Hot Product: Sally Mc Cubbin's Glass Imagery Bowls, Conceptual Cut-Outs

Canadian glass artist Sally Mc Cubbin is not content to allow a pretty bowl to be just a pretty bowl and nothing more. Instead, she uses her glass art as a vehicle for conceptualism: the images that are featured on each one of her graphic Imagery Bowls make a subtle statement that questions war, the restrictions of gender, monoculturalism, and other similarly thought-provoking subjects. Every bowl has two layers that work together to form the aforementioned imagery: the innermost layer of glass is translucent and has been relief-cut as to reveal a contrasting and coordinating layer of colored of glass that forms the outside of the bowl. Don€™t bury these beautifully made and conceived bowls under mountains of candy or other objects! Show them off singularly on your table or shelf to inspire yourself and your guests to ponder, philosophize, and debate the state of our modern world.

Hot Product: Ashley Watson's Recycled Leather Bags

From trash, comes treasure! Witness these one-of-a-kind line of downtown-cool, eco-friendly bags by accessories designer Ashley Watson, of Vancouver, British Columbia, which are fashioned from recycled leather clothing. What inspired this line? Ashley was stuck on an island visiting her family, and was struck by an idea for a bag, but too impatient to wait to find new materials. What did have in her possession was an old leather jacket that had once belonged to her father. The result was a lovely new bag fashioned from fabric that had a history, and Ashley loved the worn, soft quality of the leather and the juxtaposition of the old seams and pockets on the surface of the bag itself. That first bag became the impetus for her line, which has grown organically from it's inspired beginnings: Ashley now sells a sweet little collection of bags that come in a variety of roomy shapes and colors, and even wallets, all of which are fashioned from used leather which she culls exclusively from charity shops. The varied parentage of her materials forces Ashley to deal with different challenges each and every time she creates one of her bags, and as a result, each is a true original, and akin to a work of art.

Hot Product: Modern Birdhouses' Case Study Masters Series

Give the beautiful wild birds that visit your yard a thoroughly modern place to roost with one of the birdhouses from Modern Birdhouses' Case Study Masters Series. Each member of this series of three birdhouses are named for J.R. Davidson, Richard Neutra, and Ralph Rapson, three famous architects who were participants in the Case Study Houses Program in 1945. The aforementioned program was launched in 1945 by John Entenza, the maverick editor/publisher of Arts and Architecture magazine, and its aim was to design modern, progressive houses for the huge post-WW2 housing market. These truly mod bird abodes feature sleek, simple lines and quality materials that echo those used by the Case Study architects: the main part of the bird dwelling is handmade using sustainably harvested teak, while their striking roofs are comprised of 1/4" thick aluminum sheeting. Modern Birdhouses have finished each Case Study birdhouse with a special oil that resists water, UV rays, and even mildew, and the fasteners they have utilized combat rust and corrosion, so it is safe to say that your favored feathered pals should have a haute home for years to come.

Hot Product: Candy Photographs By Craig Kanarick, Sweets Shots

Craig Kanarick gets intimate with sweetmeats: he selects them, sorts them, and submits them to the up-close-and-personal gaze of his camera lens. What comes of these dalliances between Kanarick and his sugary subjects? Extremely detailed photographic portraits of candy that force us to look at common confections in a wholly new manner. In Kanarick's art-quality archival digital c-prints, some candies are grouped by color or type (like his print of animal-shaped candies), while others are viewed in such a close, almost abstract manner it would seem that microscopes must somehow be involved. Many are blown up to larger than life size, turning the candy depicted into something that would give a candy addict a sugar rush beyond all comprehension. Each print has been mounted behind gallery plexiglass, turning it into a collectable piece of modern art. Sad to say, this candy's not of the penny variety: one of Kanarick's limited-edition Candy Photographs (which are available at Rock Made and range between 24" x 24" to 48" x 48" in size) will set you back approximately $850 - $2500. But they sure are sweet!
