Last week, I had a revelation about Ashlee Simpson. Some people are born with a signature style that they more or less rock from the cradle to the grave, but Ashlee is not one of those people. The songstress has encountered a few twists and turns on her journey towards cultivating a signature style. We€™ve seen Ash with long hair, short hair, wavy hair, bangs, no bangs, extensions, no extension, and colors ranging from ultra blonde to ultra black. She's been scary skinny, cutely curvy, a grungy punk rocker, a buxom blonde, a girly girl, and the list goes on (and on and on). So I started writing a blog post about it.
Imagine my horror when, while watching E! News, I learned that my stroke of genius idea had somehow made its way onto the cover of the new Us Weekly issue! Yes, celebrity makeovers are a hot topic, but this was still one of the strangest coincidences I had ever experienced. Had this been €˜breaking news€™ I would have understood, but a random idea that came to me after stumbling upon some truly tragic images of celebrities taken before they hit it big (case in point, Anne Hathaway)? I don€™t think so. The realization that Us Weekly had somehow inserted a wire tap into my brain left me with several options. I could proceed with the story as planned, which would of course look like I ripped off €˜their idea.€™ I could swallow my pride and come up with a new post to run instead. I could berate myself endlessly for not running the story sooner, which would have completely turned the knock-off tables causing me to go down in history as the brilliant blogger who shamed one of the nation's top magazines (well that€™s the €˜what might have been€™ version that plays in my mind at least). Or, I could tweak the post and incorporate my original write-up with a shameless rant about how I had the idea first. Hmm, what to choose€¦ Now that my bitterness is beginning to subside, I will give credit where credit is due and commend Us Weekly. for FINALLY getting an answer out of Ashlee regarding those plastic surgery rumors that wasn't €œmaybe I did, maybe didn€™t,€ laying rumors to rest by telling the mag "I think as long as people have two eyes, then you probably know the answer"- yeah, no kidding! Okay, on with the show and my original idea. Ashlee has been through her share of hits and misses in the style department but she finally seems to have found a look that works, and maybe it's me, but doesn't she seem happier, calmer, and more confident?
